I am definitely backing this! Even if I don't have to eat for a month!

It does look good, although being in landscapes orientation seems odd - is the plan for this book to be in that orientation? That would be an interesting idea, and certainly give more room for art spreads than the normal portrait orientation.

Unfortunately, my first glance at the two-headed giant holding a rock looked more like a normal giant holding a swaddled, rather homely baby, and I cannot unsee that (apologies to anyone else this curse spreads to).

Regardless, I'll certainly be following this, and looking forward to it. And most likely jumping on board, as I was quite pleased with Delvers to Grow.

That might be a trick of the mockup. It's standard 8x10 format, like the rest of the Dungeon Fantasy RPG material.

(Unless you're looking at the Splash Page? That's required by Kickstarter to be 16:9 landscape format, so I just cropped the full cover spread)

Oh, I didn't realize Kickstarter required landscape format. That makes a lot more sense.

Will this one be available to International backers or will the curse of global shipping strike again?

We're feeling lonely down here in AU / NZ...

Ideally I want a hardcopy to sit with the rest of my DF collection, but a PDF is better than nothing if that is the only realistic option in the current economic climate.

I cannot speak to how much it will cost to ship, but if it does well and I get to do a big EU-based print run, I will ensure anyone can get it.

And PDF for those who can't get the hardcover? Personally I'd like both, down here in Aus, and happy to pay for both.

Oh, absolutely.

Right now, the plan was to offer a PDF for $X, and the more stretch goals were unlocked, the more pages I'd be able to put in the first "volume" of the bestiary, up to about 240 of them (and that almost inevitably grows a bit). However, that means that the price of the hardcopy was unknowable, and honestly, at $X each the number of backers to get there digital-only was impossibly high. All hardcopies would be added in Backerkit, and the price for the hardcopy would have to increase as stretch goals were unlocked. But it meant some very odd behavior, and making backers guess at what they wanted. Do they add on assuming the "go big" level? Do they have to keep checking back to see what stretch goals have unlocked? That's a lot of complexity, and GURPS fans though we are, that's too much of it.

The more I looked, the more I really wanted to just go big. PDF for about 1.5X, all 200-300 creatures and variants. One big hardcover book priced at Print+PDF at 3X.

But in order to get there, I really probably need about 1,000 backers. Maybe a bit more if no one buys any of the back catalog, a bit less if there are some "I wasn't doing this until a bestiary existed, but now I Want It All."

So...the preview page is live. I'm counting "followers" and seeing how much interest there is. If that number gets big ... the project will be much simpler. We all like simpler.

If it doesn't, I'll go as big as I can, and do multiple volumes. Either way, "Keep it Simple, Keep it Safe."

This is awesome.

this project will need a lot of support. Almost all of that support is for artwork.
Who's painting for this book? Have we seen stuff from the artist(s) before?
