Clarification on Cheat with both hands discard timing

The original cheat cards instructs a player to discard it whenever the affected item is lost. Conversely, the instruction for Cheat with both hands is to discard once both affected items are lost. When consider in conjunction with the card allowing you to add a second item at a later time, my question becomes this...

If i have a cheat with both hands in play with a single card being affected (item 1), and the item 2 slot is still unused; if item 1 should so happen to be lost does cheat with both hands remain in play until the second item is applied and subsequently lost OR does cheat with both hands get discarded the moment it's not affecting any item?

It's special ability to cheat 2 items does not change this core rule of Cheat!.
