Re: Tactical Shooting - the future
Every "shooter" is taught to use his sights. Muscle memory comes into play with bringing your weapon up into your sight sight line and aligned with your target.
With tons repitition, and thousands of rounds this task of draw, aim and shoot can be accomplished in less than a second. Now as with the majority of military and "tactical" units the pistol is a secondary weapon only to be used in two instances. 1: Primary is out of ammo or 2: primary has had a stoppage. |

Another thing, is in CQB, you keep shooting your target until he goes down and you do this while advancing (closing the distance). You might have great body armor but it sure F'n hurts when you get shot. |

Re: Tactical Shooting - the future
I expect better coverage to be the next stage in armour. I recall an interview on the radio a while back with a Canadian General regarding Afghanistan. He was discussing the way that they'd improved the body armour by adding coverage to the upper arm as they were getting lots of arm hits that went right through to the chest.
As coverage improves I expect we'll see some good rigid plates of some sort for tender bits in the pelvic area.

Re: Tactical Shooting - the future
Opinions on this differ considerably; the difference between Point-Shooting (without the use of sights) and the Modern Technique (with the use of sights) is addressed in detail in Tactical Shooting. The former was actually quite common in some eras and some circles, including many professional shootists. They are the basis for several Martial Arts-type styles in the book.

Or at least a hint about when we might see a playtest (with plenty of understanding if there is a good reason you can't say at this time)?

The military doctrine d'jour is shooting for extremities if the enemy is wearing armor. Andrew Brannan (Vietnam Vet) did exactly that to a police officer, shoot the unarmored part and apply the coup de grāce.The rebels in Afghanistan and Iraq do the very same thing, they shoot for the legs of coalition soldiers. Returning vets have some bizarre stories... |
