Go to p.80 of Powers and get the Maneuverable Enhancement for Super Jump. It's a much more direct path to what you want than any modified Gliding.

You're probably right about that. Hmmm. Though neither does much on the "replacing Light Walk / Lizard Climb" front. I guess heavily-limited Gravity Control (e.g. Only To Make Self Lighter, -80%) could cost as little as 4 points / level and would help with jumping, climbing, and other tasks all in one ability.

Walk on Air (Only when touching something solid, -?%) would actually combine Light Walk and Lizard Climb. Not sure what it's worth—if you have a vertical surface you can maintain contact with, it's potentially less restrictive than say a 5 foot ceiling. Maybe -20%? That plus Super Jump might actually give you all the core wuxia tricks.

I find that a little questionable. Walk On Air and Clinging cost the same amount. You shouldn't be able to totally subsume the latter with the former.

Part of me is tempted to go with Flight (Gliding), which could get quite cheap when combined with other limitations. Adding the Slow limitation from Psionic Powers is tempting but I'm unclear on how it would interact with Gliding.
I believe the Requires Surface Limitation for Flight was designed with wire-fu in mind.

I hadn't noticed this. It seems odd, as Walk on Air seems like it does everything Clinging does and more (you don't need to climb a wall when you can use air-stairs for the same effect), although I think Clinging may allow you to climb a bit faster.

Because let's face it they have some odd features.

I don't mind them, but I also don't use them much: I only consistently use mental strength, and usually not in a Martial Arts context. Part of not minding them is they are fairly specific and narrow in their application, as opposed to the spells system.

Oooh, that's perfect, somehow I missed that one. (For those who've also missed it: it's Powers p. 50). That actually works out pretty nicely—something like Flight (Requires Surface, -20%; Slow, Air Move equals Basic Speed, -25%; Chi, -10%) [19] ends up being quite affordable.

Yeah, with the exception of roping down with specialized equipment, climbing speeds top out at about 1 yard/sec. per B349 (technically three "rungs" for going up a ladder, but typical ladders space rungs about a foot apart). Clinging lets you do half Basic Move. Though honestly 1 yard/sec. is probably too slow for a wuxia game.

I find the skills that take 33 seconds to activate so limited to be next to unusable. I've gotten around that a few times with a penalty reduction feature on customized Masterful Training, priced as a medium group rather than small, just because of the potency of these skills...

Thank you Mr. Rice!

Another alternative to help with these is a level of Compartmentalized Mind or ATR to squeeze in some concentration time.

I'm a big fan of Flight (only in contact with a surface) for Speedster builds... Run your character right across that lake or up a wall.

That has more to do with one or both advantages being mispriced than with walk on air not logically rendering clinging irrelevant 90% of the time (clinging works in a vacuum, and using walk on air when you have a 20 mph headwind is likely to be not very effective).

Well, with Walk On Air you aren't "climbing" so much as "going up stairs," which should be faster. I think going up a 45-degree staircase is half Move (two movement points per hex, but note you go up at the same rate as forward), so Clinging would be no faster so long as you had some area to move around (with a narrow chimney, Walk On Air would be stuck with something like ladder-climbing speeds). So Walk On Air seems generally superior to Clinging - it's less useful in a very (heh) narrow range of uses, but doesn't use up your hands, doesn't require a surface, and even gives you the ability to "catch" yourself in a fall, avoiding falling damage.
