[Psionic Powers] Group Scare
Hi,
I have a question regarding the Group Scare technique of Instill Fear from Psionic Powers p. 65. There is written: "You may double this radius, cumulatively, for every 5 points by which you make your (modified) skill roll." Do I get it right, that the final radius is determined after the skill roll, i.e., when I am 5 below my (modified) skill, I am allowed to double the radius? If this is true, is this a bit non-GURPS'ish, where I am used to take a penalty to achieve a greater effect, i.e., for me GURPS is very determined. Moreover, GURPS Powers extends the Area modifier (p. 100) by simply saying that the area can be increased by paying 1 FP for each yard of radius. But yes, Instill Fear has no FP costs by default - so, this rule might not be applicable. I wonder if it would break the ability much if I add the Costs Fatigue limitation, i.e., each use costs 1 FP by default. However, the technique Group Scare would then follow the Area rules from Powers, i.e., by simply paying more FP, you could increase the radius. What do you say? |

Re: [Psionic Powers] Group Scare
Psionic Powers, Page 8 "Psi Techniques" talks about FP cost.
page 10 "Additional Psi Technique Guidelines" talks about area effect. |

Yes, it's done for the final roll and is not added as a penalty to the roll before you roll. That way SOMETHING happens and if you roll good enough more happens.
