Default Rules Question (6e) - Autopilot Card

Regarding the Autopilot card in the Uncle Al set:

It states you can pay 3 ACE to place one CONTROL on the card. But the card does not specifically state that this CONTROL marker is or is not to be returned to the supply at the end of the turn.

My thought is the card is not worth the BP you pay for it if that one CONTROL just goes back to the supply end of turn. If that were the case, why not simply word the card "Once per turn, 3 ACE gives you 1 CONTROL" rather than mention leaving on the card and using it as if it was in your pool.

I am thinking that this one CONTROL can persist on the card to be used in a future turn if desired.

The core rules themselves only state "All remaining CONTROL and ACE are returned to the supply..", which to some players reading it could mean you have to return the CONTROL marker you just paid ACE to have on the card.. ie "all remaining".

What say the good masters of this forum? :)

That was how I read the card text. Three-for-one seem like a lot, but it’s the only example where spare tokens can carry over from one turn to the next, so that makes sense, and it fits the card name as well.

Seems like a lot... till you play my large game 36BP build. Then you got ACE for days! check it out: http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.p...6&postcount=31

..and yes! I agree about the card name point too and forgot to mention it. Thank you!

Yep. Pay 3 ace tokens to place a control token on the card. You can't put more than one control token on the card, but it stays there until you need to spend it.

It's more like an indicator light to show that, whenever you want to pay 1 less control token, the autopilot can handle that for you. It's never part of your pool of control tokens, so it isn't returned at the end of the round.

And yeah, it seems expensive at first, but it's actually balanced using the same math that balanced the weapons. The value of that control token spikes and diminishes based on your circumstances, though, so it's not as clear-cut.

When you need one, you probably need it a LOT.

Put it there at the beginning of the game when you have lots of tokens, and pull it out in the end game when everyone is donuting around on bare rims.

As HeatDeath points out, when you need the token, you NEED it. The other thing that isn't obvious is that Autopilot indirectly feeds itself by facilitating more maneuvering, which helps you replace your spent ace tokens. This is definitely one of the more subtle-yet-potent accessories.

"Indicator light"? I like that analogy... I just need to remember not to try to fix it by putting black electrical tape over it like I do engine lights.. oil lights... etc..
