3E High-Skill Feinting Optional Rule?
An optional rule from 3E Compendium II, High-Skill Feinting:
"If a character’s weapon skill is higher than his DX, add the difference to his skill when feinting or being feinted." This seems like a really good combat rule to reward high relative skill level. I'm wondering why it appears nowhere at all in 4E, especially when other comparable optional combat rules from 3E have made their way into 4E, including Dodge and Drop and a basic All-Out Defense option. Does anybody use High-Skill Feinting? And if not, why not? |

Re: 3E High-Skill Feinting Optional Rule?
Isn't this how Feinting works in 4e already? The quoted text implies that in 3e, by default you Feint and resist Feints with straight DX, but in 4e you use your relevant skill level (which is based on DX). Alternatively, you're looking at some double-dipping that makes high skill too good in a Feint, as a character with Broadsword at DX+2 Feints and resists Feints at DX+4 (2+2), one at DX+3 does so at DX+6, and so forth.
EDIT: Reading the linked article, I see it was indeed advocating double-dipping. I'd say the reason it wasn't carried over is because it was too good (and also a bit complicated in play) - although it could indeed be used if you want to make DX-monkeys with a few points in a skill less viable compared to characters of more modest DX and higher skill investment.
