Reinforcing your skin [LOW-TECH]
I read in Low-Tech (p.105) about reinforcing textile or leather armor. This grants +1 DR vs cutting, with weight and price based on the weight and price of the armor.
So. I'm writing about minotaurs now, and it strikes me that it would be cool to have them reinforce their skin, with piercings. Do you think this is possible and what would the stats be? Edit: I should add that the minotaurs are SM +1 and have DR 2 (Tough Skin).

Reinforcing leather removes the -1DR against impaling.

Re: Reinforcing your skin [LOW-TECH]
I'd probably not make a piercing reinforcement just be straight DR gain. I'd probably make a roll to see if a piercing is even hit (Assuming they are large piercings).

EDIT: Layered light leather Torso armor would weigh 33.75 lb and cost $270 for a minotaur. 25% of this is 8.45 lb and $67.5, so that would be the base weight and cost for such reinforcement. I see nothing to this effect in Low Tech. Getting rid of the -1 to DR requires hardening or layering. Last edited by Varyon; 04-30-2014 at 09:17 AM. |

I don't see a problem allowing this, though I would make it harder (Surgery rolls?) and more expensive, to represent the challenge of avoiding harming the Minotaur in the process. Magic would help in this regard to speed healing and prevent infection or rejection of the foreign material.

Re: Reinforcing your skin [LOW-TECH]
But it would look great, especially for minotaur gladiators!
