Default Infinite Worlds -- Table of Organization for Infinity

Nope, not asking for one. I made one. The whole setting is wonderful and I think the various divisions and departments of Infinity make sense, but there've been times when I couldn't quite figure out where a certain group stood in relation to another, or exactly how the United Nations and various corporate groups related to Infinity themselves. So I diagramed it out and posted it to MyGURPS in case anyone else found it useful.

You have ISWAT under the Patrol. As I recall, they report to the Council.

Or they would if they existed.

ISWAT may report to and get their orders from the Council, but there are still going to be administrative details that need to be handled by somebody. So the Patrol incorporates a little-known bureau with an innocuous and boring-sounding name such as "Logistical Research Analysis Group"; anyone who stumbles across it and bothers to ask will learn that since it doesn't conduct any field operations, it is outside of the normal Patrol chain-of-command and that its director answers directly to the head of the Patrol.

Plenty of real-world precedent for such an arrangement.

The Mounties?? He has the Mounties on the chart !! That gave me a good laugh. Makes sense with so many Canadians writing for GURPS.

Nope, the text puts them under Infinity itself. "ISWAT ... is the elite black-ops section of the Infinity Patrol." As with regular SWAT, it's really a secondary role for existing I-Cops and Scouts -- but unlike SWAT, that "secondary" status is really a technicality and most of their time is spent on ISWAT missions. I believe you may be thinking of Alternate Outcomes, Inc. -- a.k.a. "The Battalion" -- the elite group of soldiers who act directly under UNIC.

BTW, I forgot about Corporate Security, so I added it in and updated the chart. (The text suggests playing a CorpSec game and also mentions the rivalry between CorpSec and IP's Security division, so that tells me it's worthy of inclusion.)

Admittedly, they may or may not be worthy of inclusion -- it was a judgment call. The connection to the RCMP was mentioned several times and strikes me as possibly important in a game, so I put it in. I think it's worth noting the connection, as it could definitely come up in a game ("We need to contact some Homeline authority -- which one can we trust?")

That is a very handy chart. I'll be getting use out of it.

Remember the TV show "Due South" ? I'm still thinking about the Mounties. I magine a really BIG Projector and conyeyer - we're talking STARGATE SG-1 sized ...and short -staffed and in an emergency situation ... singing mounties on horseback are sent away on a rescue mission.

There was a later Due South that had a whole rehiment of singing Mounties and their horses travelling on a train ...Leslie Noielson guest-starred in that episode...and it was mostly played for laughs. Had a very Brisco County feel to that particular one.

You're probably right.

I could swear that there was a note somewhere saying that one of these groups is tacitly but definitely recognised as providing the Council with a potential counterweight to the I-Cops, should things ever come down to a violent confrontation - but I can't now find the damn thing.
