Fine, GURPS Rcl/Recoil vs. RW recoil. GURPS Recoil should've been named Spread. Karate not necessarily meaning strictly karate. Do I really need to search through the examples to find the most offending ones, just to make myself clear.

Otherwise, +1 CP to you for the nit.

Yeah, in general I do agree with you. it just that participially example bugs me, as it an example of shallowing of the language, word drift as the cultural growth is a fine thing, but not shallowing, as language does shape thought, shollow the language, you stunt thought.

Unarmed combat is clearly different. For example, you need to buy a special technique (aggressive parry) to do what weapons generally do. Now, perhaps there's room for rules for an unarmed cross-parry but, and this is my core point, the cross-parry rules in Martial Arts are not them. They would almost certainly include rules on what sorts of damage your arms would expect to take while blocking (not "avoiding") a huge weapon like a maul. These rules do not contain that.
Martial Arts page 81 (Two-Handed Punch) clearly states that you can Cross Parry with two hands; and several unarmed styles teach parrying with two hands together (even if, as Doug says, all parries that use two arms or two weapons are not Cross Parries). I would make that rule general and house rule something to stop the "block a huge weapon at reach 2 on your arm" problem.

Concur. I'd probably handle it one of two ways:

1) When you parry a weapon with a direct contact action, like a cross parry, roll damage normally. Your parry reduces that damage somehow, and anything beyond what's required to cripple the arm(s) carries through to the original target.

2) You parry a weapon at a scaled penalty based on weapon weight multiplied by reach (and reach C = 0). If you fail the parry based on this penalty, you take damage to first the arms, then the target, as above. If you just fail it totally, you get whacked straight on the target. Reach is either the reach at which you perform the parry or the weapon max reach, whichever is less.

I think the major problem is adjust weight with attacker ST. An attack is different from a fall.
