Default GURPS Realm Management

If you seek glory
There are far easier paths
Than ruling the world
— Accepted translation of glyphs on the so-called "Emperor's Tomb"
The focus of RPGs is on the PCs – as well it should be! After all, a good campaign tells their story, and few players show up at the gaming table to voice roles that are barely audible over the world's cacophony. Yet plenty of heroes seek to rule . . . and plenty of adventures originate in the maneuvering of polities, be they fiefs, nations, or galactic empires.

Just as GURPS Boardroom and Curia gives gamers the tools to found and oversee organizations, and GURPS Mass Combat lets them raise and command military forces, GURPS Realm Management hands them the keys to realms: from small colonies and feudal holdings, to the greatest empires the world (and perhaps the universe!) has ever seen. It offers a stats system that goes well beyond that of GURPS City Stats, defining all the vital details of a territory of any size. Alongside this, it provides turn-based rules for managing this domain via conflict, diplomacy, intrigue, trade, and more than a little hard work, spiced up with unforeseeable events, both good and bad.

Whether the heroes need a dynamic backdrop for adventure or jobs at the highest levels, Realm Management is ready to serve.

Purchased. Rated. Adored.

I have been hoping for a supplement covering this sort of thing for over a decade and I am not disappointed. I'm also quite excited by the hope of related books, especially those expanding the system.

Unrelatedly, I am now recruiting new players.

So in a certain other game dungeon crawling traditionally gave way to realm management after you reached a certain power level... can a DFRPG version be far behind?

Edit: Also, yes, this is excellent.

Liking it so far, just one question, where does it say about maximum status a realm can support, it says in government type, but I am not seeing it in the entries?

That's my point, p31. Says maximum status is dependent on government type p 14-20, but those pages don't say anything on the point.

The worked example implies it should be around where you calculate carrying capacity but I couldn't see it

I'm really glad to hear that.

I'd simplify it a lot for DFRPG, but lets see how this one does first. :-)

You helped quite a bit too, Anders. You and others helped make the final version so shiny.

I was rather happy with those too. I love random roll tables. They are my jam and my jelly.

hmmm. That might be a errata. Max status is really dependent on Rank and that's left up to the GM to decide for the realm. Usually it's 7 or 8, but might be lower in some societies.
