Default 3d printing

What are people's solution for this? Are people all using there own printers?

I got some estimates from a local printer service. $75 Can for a single 28 mm human figure; I assume a car would cost more. I could get $20 per model if I get 50 at a time. It would be way cheaper to buy from the store and get them shipped.

I think most of us are. I mean, I wouldn't recommend getting a 3d printer just to print Car Wars minis (though with what they're quoting you, you could buy a low-end resin or filament printer for the cost of three or four minis), but it's a tool which opens up a bunch of hobbyist vistas. I use mine for lots of game-related printing, decorative items (I've done a lot of little bits and pieces like light switch and outlet plates around the house), and ad-hoc cookie cutters. Your area may also have public libraries or maker spaces with 3d printers available. You'll likely need to pay some kind of rental fee or membership dues plus cost of materials, but it'll be less than 75 CAD a pop.

Those prices are ridiculous.

My local public library has a filament printer members can use basically for free. Resin is obviously a horse of a different color, I understand that, but that "printing service" is taking people for a ride, man.

It's not the materials -- it's the "labor". The old Gallagher routine applies: "Folks don't want to pay $75 for tires... so they hear they're only $49.95... but then y' gotta buy all them extras, like 'Do you want 'em on the car?' 'No, I'll just eat 'em here.'"

Well, I know the CW cars would be cheaper to buy from my flgs even if the stl files were free, so there's that.

For now it's on the back burner until I can afford a decent printer.

In my opinion, owning your own printer is more convenient
