Default GURPS GM Screen and Character Creation: a question

Hi,

I am new to the forum, but not to GURPS (player and GM since 1993). I have been away from the hobby for many years, and in the last couple of years I have been trying to catch up with 4e. I have a question for you.

I know that the GM screen (now out of print) included one or more booklets, which included (a) GURPS Lite, (b) GURPS Update and (c) something like GURPS Character Creation.

I know that (a) and (b) are now freely available as PDFs, but what about (c)? Has the Character Creation booklet ever been released electronically? I really loved the old Instant Characters booklet for 3e, and I would like to get my hands on its 4e successor.

Thanks!

afaik I don't believe there's such thing.

There's the Character Assistant, which is a program...but I'm not even sure at it's current situation on legitimacy and all that jazz.

So I might be misinformed. I don't remember where I first read about this thing, probably in this review. Maybe the Character Creation part was not included in the standard GM screen edition?

I bought the 4e screen while it was still in print, and there was a copy of GURPS Lite that came with it, but that was all that was included.

Now there is a GURPS Update that is still free in PDF.
There is also
a skills list broken down by occupation.
Spell Charts
a range ruler

But thats all the free stuff that comes to mind.

For easy chargen, I recommend GURPS Character Sheet, but as it runs in Java, you have to have Java installed. That said, it runs on any platform that runs Java, which is nice.

I didnt play 3e, so I dont know what was in that book. If you are looking for templates however there is this handy list that will show you what is where.

I remember a Character Creation book. I can't remember if one was included with the 4th ed. GM Screen. Can anyone confirm one definitely was?

The character creation booklet that you're thinking of did come with the GM screen -- so Nymdok, either you're forgetting about it or you got a copy missing something, sorry! It included a summary of the rules and several custom character sheets.

And it's still available, as part of the GURPS GM's Screen PDF at Warehouse 23:

The Character Creation booklet includes GURPS Update, but there are 24 additional pages, for trait lists, character sheets, and forms.

Rather confusingly, the GURPS Update PDF includes, as its second page, the first page of the Character Creation booklet. This provides a list of contents for GURPS Update, but also claims there's other stuff in the PDF which is absent.

Welcome to the forum!

I would also add that the GCA program is very worthwhile IMO.
It helps with all the calculations, cuts down on writing & the advantages tell you what book they are from so it's easier to look them up!
