Weird Power Concept
Looking for a reality check from the forum goons (said will all due reverence).
Banish: Affliction 1--79 pts -Advantage: Jumper (World; Cannot Escort -10%; Interplanar -0%; Limited Access (Only to plane of origin; -25%); Accessability (Demons only) -30%; Magical -10%) -Malediciton (Long-Distance Modifiers; +200%) -Extended Duration (Permanant with Dispelling Conditions; +150%; Condition: 1 year) -Reliable +10 (+50%) -Cosmic (Victim spends all costs related to Jumper; +50%) -Magical -10% The GM gave me the value of Limited Access and Accessability specific for their game. And, while cheesy, the GM does allow the use of Reliable to boost effectivness of Afflictions. My question is does this hold up to my goal. My goal is a power that will banish a demon back to where they came from and keep them there for one year? If they try to leave, the power drags them, kicking and screaming, back to their home plane. The power can't send them anywhere else, just back to where they came from, and it makes them spend all related FP to use the Jumper "advantage." Should Jumper have "Always On?" |

The Jumper Advantage should also have Uncontrollable so that the demon can't choose whether or not to volunteer.

Shouldn't the Demons Only accessibility be on the power as a whole, not just the Jumper part? I realize that makes the whole thing more expensive, sorry...
And you don't need Unconscious when it's part of an Affliction, any more than you would on a shrinking ray; inflicting the advantage on the unwilling is what an Affliction is all about. Last edited by transmetahuman; 04-08-2006 at 01:00 PM. |

And, finally, I don't think you can use Extended Duration that way. When you use Affliction to inflict an instantaneous effect like Jumper, I'd consider it to become instant itself. I know what you're trying to do, there... hmmm.
Maybe Extended Duration + Unconscious Only (+ Uncontrollable, which you need if you have UO) is the way to go, after all. I was thinking in terms of the way you use Affliction: Warp to exoteleport someone - it doesn't give the victim the ability to Warp on his own for the next minute or so, it just works once. But to get the year-long thing you're going for, you'd need to put a godawful huge Cyclic enhancement on the Affliction... I think I'd let you do it your way if I was the GM. Maybe insist on another Terminal Condition besides just "wait one year". |

Maybe put Persistent on it?
I think the unconscious only is a good idea, because, for one year, they're stuck there. If they jump out, they get shunted back. If you got hit with a shrink ray, and someone hit you with a growth ray, you'd grow back. But if it were both persistent and unconscious, you'd shrink back as soon as the growth was finished, and when it's duration ended, you'd go back to minimum. There are other ways to get rid of it. They are demons, after all, I figure they've got contacts. |

Bugs me enough that (if I were your GM) I'd let you have that part as a special effect of the negated advantage affliction, rather than see you use this construction or making you use the ridiculously expensive Cyclic. |
