Jaline is a competent sneak and climber, and seems to be good with locks and devices. She says her last party was lost in the dungeon with the elder things, and she wants their bodies so she can resurrect them like she promised.

I'll approach her as the group breaks up after I stop buying drinks. "You seed pretty talkative for someone with no interest."

Arlinela: "I'm pretty talkative in general. Comes with being a bard. You're more perceptive than I thought if you picked that up. If you're done fooling around, I can be done for a little bit."


"I've been watching that nexus for a while. There's a lot of activity around it. A lot of cultists. I'm keeping my nose clean, but watching. Might get a good story out of it. Might help someone change things. But right now, it looks like Lord Taro and the whole town is headed for tragedy. I don't know how big."

Vassarious studies her for signs of just what kind... Undead does not always equal evil.

After Halcyone interviews Jaline, they take them aside to discuss what they sense.

"That one is the walking dead. Some sort of revenant perhaps... We have a few interested parties. Do you think we have the makings of a party of adventurers?"

After, Vassarious will buy a round for those willing to join their table to discuss the possibilities further.

Jaline is animated by a soul copied and warped by arcane necromancy. The process that made her is truely evil, and at creation she would be imbued with a truly evil master who can give commands and her copied soul would have sadism and callous attatched, and previously good qualities removed or at least warped.

Vassarious gets them all at a table and talking. There is some discussion of what everyone can do. The way they just sort of assume an adventuring party is a little strange. A lot of what's going on is assessing abilities and testing each other for trustworthiness... what do you two do in the way of convincing the party you're both capable and trustworthy? what do you tell others about what you can do, where you're from, and what your motives are?

I'm willing to be pretty direct here and explain what we know, but I'm willing to hear what matrix_walker would like to say.

Vassarious will go early in the order before too many secrets are revealed.
We would not want Joline's dark master to learn too much if they are working against us.

They explain they have heard of the threat of the newly minted breed of things, and traveled far to stop them. They will share that they are a fighter and collector of knowledge.

Vassarious goes on to explain that they are not a spellcaster, but possess considerable arcane knowledge and also has sense that can help them perceive some supernatural creatures and their natures... and turns to Joline.

"So before we speak further, is there something you, or your master, would like to tell us Joline?"

"My masters dead. Or destroyed, he was dead when he made me. Yes, I'm undead. But I'm not here to kill and maim. I'm just trying to live my life like I did before it became an unlife. Its hard to do, but I think I'm doing a decent job. Besides, you were about to side up with a brazen thief. Is an undead really any different? And I'll confess, I do get the urge to go and kill something. But that's why I keep adventuring. If I aim the urge, it helps me control it."

She sounds convincing. You can't put your finger on any lies.

The Elven Warrior stands up "Kneel, Abomination!" Its longest speech you've heard her give

Jaline stands on her feet and takes a step back. "This is exactly why I carry on this subterfuge!"

I encourage you to continue fighting against the evil within by battling worser evils in the world. But these times are too dire for us to worry about threats emerging from our own shadows, so I also encourage you to do it elsewhere."
