Default Weapons - Zhua

Are there any GURPS stats for a Zhua (claw on a pole)?

My initial thought was to use the rake stats from Low-Tech, but that doesn't seem to do the weapon justice nor quite fit.

It seems as though it would be a staff weapon, and a Google search (leading to the Deadliest Warrior wiki) supports that. Found here: http://deadliestwarrior.wikia.com/wiki/Zhua

The biggest conundrum I have is trying to make sense of the type of damage the weapon deals with the GURPS rules. It doesn't quite seem to be cutting or piercing, but it seems to do more than just crushing. Crushing damage with some sort of linked small piercing effect?

I would treat it as a pick that deals less damage but never gets stuck

I don't see why not. Well other than probably being more effective than the weapon realistically is. Consider using the sodegarami statistics as an alternative.

Crushing could work OK. Crushing weapons are perfectly capable of having short studs or spikes for tearing skin, if they don't penetrate very deeply this doesn't change the damage a great deal.

Would the claimed ability to grab a shield from an opponent be a disarm?

Why not just allow it to Hook?

So, it's basically an ethnic-badass rake. :0

I was trying to cover the uses it was claimed to be used for before considering other things.

I wouldn't be opposed to other options. I was trying to look at why it would be used as a weapon over other options by considering some of the special options that were claimed to be part of why it was used.

@ Combat Medic - That was my initial impression.

Hooking allows you to Disarm, IIRC.

On the first two pages of Google results, only two results are about the weapon. One is the Deadliest Warrior wiki (which, IMO, can be ignored when talking about history), the other is this very thread. I think it can safely be said that it generally wasn't used over other options.

Even making logical narrowing (such as zhua weapon) the search generally results in things like Kung Fu Magazine and other things that were probably not contenders for a spot in the GURPS Low Tech Bibliography.

It's also a good way to make a little money on the side.
