Ok, the endurance thing would make more sense if he had fit, high HT, or the running skill ... but lets see how this works out.
Dropping the pack gains him some time -- unlike the bucket, they actually seem to be interested in the pack. Its not long before his lungs are on fire and a stitch is in his side -- but he keeps going. The ants are behind him, scurrying after him. He may be descended from marathon runners, but its a fairly new experience for him. his throat is dry -- the ants don't seem to be able to catch him, but he can't seem to loose the creatures -- are ant's marathon runners? does physics even apply to these particular creatures? It seems like an eternity, and Alexander's will and ability to run is essentially gone. the ants are still behind him. He has sand his shoe. OCC: the dice do not like Alexander today. Do you wish to burn serindipity now?

Spending serendipity sounds good. And he'll keep in mind that he's not as good at running as his forbears for next time. Sadly he doesn't have access to his character sheet. |

Alexander is running along wash, wondering at what point he'll drop and get eaten, when a bolt of green light jumps from that glove thing and Splits a tree in front of him.
He weirdly enough can feel the energy flowing through him, and its building up in the glove again.

'Power glove, you've just earned your name. Now let's see what you make of giant ants if you split trees,' thinks a weary Green as he slows, turns, and aims at one of the oncoming ants.

He feels energy flowing out of him and into the glove as he aims. The ants slow down in anticipation. And then he sends a bolt of energy at one of them.
The first bolt crosses the distance of a large room (20 feet) and passes just between the two ants. He may have a weapon, but he's not a great aim with it. The ants are approaching step by step, antennae twitching.

He misses again, and the things come closer. Each time, he can feel energy flowing out of him and into the glove. Yet he seems to have a good amount of the energy. They're quite close when he finally hits.
The carpace splits and the big bug shrieks as it stumbles to the ground. The other one stops advancing and waves its antennae

He hits the second one, and it winces, then comes towards him -- but its kind of a drunken stagger. But he finds he can now easily outrun the wounded creatures, and puts some good distance between himself and them*.
* yes you can choose this distance. At this point the battle is essentially over.

He'll finish it off from a good fifteen to twenty feet and then trudge his way back to where his gear should be. Hopefully there's still some water. Then he'll see about continuing on his merry way.
