Default NPCs: John Q. Public and others.

Create and critique characters who can function as NPCs in game worlds.

I'll go first, to get this started.

Name: John Q. Public
Age: 35 years old
Gender: Male
Occupation: Regular
John is Caucasian, has wavy blond hair, brilliant blue eyes, is of medium build, 5'10" in height, and 170 lbs in weight. He is currently wearing a black turtleneck sweater, a peach shirt, a green sweater, a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of black leather loafers.

I'm just a regular Joe, with a regular job. I'm your average white, suburbanite slob. I like football, and porno, and books about war. I got an average house, with a nice hardwood floor. My wife and my job, my kids and my car, my feet on my table, and a Cuban cigar.

Basic Attributes:

First, you have the signs switched from standard conventions. For example, talent (Smooth Operator) should be [+15] or, preferably, [15]. While I understand the pattern you are using, it will confuse some people at first.

Secondly, you have the point total listed in a rather confusing way. It looks like he costs 0 points, not 37 points as in the case.

Whoops. I had actually meant to switch all of the signs around before posting the character.

Yes, the group that I played with when I was learning how to build a character with GURPS actually did it this way and I followed suit.

Again, my bad. That's the way I learned how to configure the point totals. The initial point allowance was 37, which was bumped up with the disadvantage "Sense of Duty (Small Group)" and the various quirks (because I treated these numbers as additions). All of the advantages and skills were treated as numbers to be subtracted.

I thought we already had this one.

I actually got the idea from that thread, I just didn't realise that it was still active.

_And_ he's a Smooth Operator? I don't know. A Talent is by definition an exceptional capability, outside "average".

Also exceptional is to be native-level fluent in Irish. Such people are a minority _in Ireland_, not to mention anywhere else.

And a chain smoker hasn't a Quirk, he's got an Addiction at the -5 point level (Tobacco). An occasional smoker might call his tobacco use just a Quirk.

In real life terms or GURPS terms? I never figured the talents in GURPS to be particularly exceptional.

I agree with you here, I was intending for the character to have Irish blood (but not necessarily be Irish) and putting "Native" was probably pushing it.

I did not know that. Thanks for the help.
