Pericles takes a steady aim at the deputy's head (assuming that's visible) -- if he moves to present a larger target, all the better -- otherwise, he'll take a shot at the head after another second of careful aiming . . .
(ooc: two turns of aiming (3) +braced (1) gives a skill of 16, headshot would be -7 ? )

Shotgun blast (3d6=9)
[ooc: i am going to assume you let rip with both barrels to maximise the chance of a hit. Your guns(shotgun) skill is capped at 12 to match your riding skill, -7 for range of 30 yards, +3 for rof 16, you need 8 or less to hit so its a miss]

Your shot passes with a whisker of the target, you curse your luck and await the return shot which never comes as the riflemans chest is opened up by .45 long colt round fired by samuel. The rifeman slumps back in his saddle drops his rifle and falls to the ground.

Samuel is pleased to watch the rifleman crumple, drop his weapon and fall from his horse as a result of his well placed shot. However he is not out of the woods yet. You need to bring your horse under control. You have two attempts before you either hit the wagon or the horse takes you on a mad dash through the trees.

pericles takes careful aim at the fake deputies head and steadies his breathing. To complicate the shot there are horses in the line of fire (-4 to hit) this will not be an easy shot from here. However things change. The fake deputy having found his feet and watched the last of his allies blasted from their saddles makes a tactically unsound choice. He tries to remount his horse to escape. By the time pericles comes to fire his shot the fake deputy no longer benefits from the cover provided by Pericles own team. (Your modified roll to hit is 9).

Jeb is somewhat dismayed by his lack of luck with the team today. The branch struck him across the chest and by rights should have dumped jeb on his butt in the path of the remaining two mules but providence finally decides to shine on poor Jeb. Instead of falling Jeb manages to grab a hold of the branch and hang on. He may look silly but he wont get trampled.
Jebs faithful mule henry realises something is wrong and brings the team to a halt a few yard from where jeb is hanging. Jeb is thus able to contrl the drop to the floor with ease. There are several more gunshots from the back trail and Jeb wonders just who is winning.

Taking one shot at the deputy...
pistol shot on 9 (3d6=6)

Almost surprised to have actually hit -- 2d for damage (2d6=11) pi damage, so 16 assuming no armor.

"Well, that could have been a lot worse. Good boy, Henry!" Jeb walks up to his team, and finds a place to tether them so that they are, as much as possible, out of the path of any stray bullets. He then draws his firearm and cautiously heads back towards the road, as quietly as he can. 3d = 13 (Stealth 11, failure by 2). Unfortunately, that's not all the quietly. Given his hearing, he probably thinks he's being quiet.

Sampson spits and curses as he manuvers his horse right at one of the assaliants. He tries to flip the shotgun around in his hand so he can club the man. (ooc: Dex Roll (3d6=9) made it by 3)
