Default [LT/LT:IA] Armor Suits, v3!

Okay, this is my third attempt at making armor. (I decided to split it off from my earlier v2 thread for various reasons.)

A few notes:

* I'm using the terms "hauberk" and "cuirass" to indicate armor pieces that cover the full torso area - chest, abdomen, and groin - mainly for ease of use. Essentially, a "hauberk" would be one that hangs loose in a 'one size fits all' kind of deal, while a cuirass needs to be properly fitted by an armorer. Feel free to substitute "haubergeon" or "cuirass and fauld" when reading.

* I left off suits made of bone, horn, paper, and straw because they're not used in my own setting. These suits are intended to be guidelines for players making their own or purchased as full suits in my Renaissance Fantasy setting.

* Leather Scale is built as Layered Leather.

* My setting's Far East uses Segmented Plate instead of Mail.

* Many of my players tend to be more familiar with That Other Game, so I've indicated which suits - in my mind, at least - match up to That Other Game's suits of armor.

And now: the armor!

At first and very brief glance, I see that you aren't using the Instant Armor listings for your armor pieces. IA provides that plate cannot cover the abdomen—have to use Segmented Plate for the faulds there.

That may or may not be something you want to incorporate in your lists.

Which brings to mind another question about those armor lists... hrm... time to wander off to the IA thread and get some answers...

It also looks like your Segmented Plate suits are missing headgear. Even though you don't use Segmented Plate for helms, I don't think it would be remiss to slap a plate full helm, plate bascinet, or mail coif (or mail coif and some plate) onto those listings.

Huh. Now that I look at the Abdomen table, you're right. I was looking mainly at the Torso table on pp.4-5 of LT:IA, not the Abdomen table, which does list plate for the full torso - chest and abdomen.

I probably won't throw a mail coif on them, as the Far East uses segmented plate instead of mail. Some form of pot helm or bascinet doesn't seem out of place, though.

It does, but it is not realistic. It is for players who don't separate the abdomen hit location from the whole torso. If you use Chest and Abdomen as separate locations then you don't put plate on the abdomen.

Mail was fairly common pretty much everywhere in Asia except for China (they used it but it wasn't common).

I've recently seen a Japanese kabuto where the bowl was segmented. It was designed to be collapsed flat so it could easily be stored and transported. It looked fairly flimsy though. I suppose it could be classed as a cheap segmented helmet. This is the only example of a segmented helmet that I can think of.

Ah, I didn't realize that the whole set was Far Eastern (or if it's not, which were supposed to belong to the Far East culture and which weren't).

Even if whatever culture uses that armor set doesn't use mail, I'm sure they have some sort of head protection. Or at least, I'd hope so.

I should have been a bit more precise. I meant to say my setting's Far East - which is essentially based off China anyways - uses segmented plate instead of mail.

Huh, neat. I was just gonna slap a steel pot helm on them and call it a day.

Perhaps I should have been a little clearer about this in the first post. My bad.

They do. When I was making these, I wasn't quite sure what head protection to give them. You'll notice that for the cloth and leather armors, I also don't list head protection. Again, mainly because I couldn't figure out which headgear to give them.

I'll be allowing my players to pick and choose from Instant Armor anyways, so I'm sure some of them will pick a light suit plus headgear.
