Default [DF] New Race: Wolf-Folk

Hi guys

Along the lines of the Cat-Folk racial template from DF3:5 I've created the following template for Wolf-Folk and would like to get your input.

Code:
Wolf-Folk [40]

Attribute Modifier:
DX +1 [20]

Secondary Characteristic Modifiers:
Per +1 [5]

Advantages:
Acute Hearing 1 [2]
Acute Taste and Smell 2 [4]
Claws (Blunt) [3]
Discriminatory Smell [15]
Fur [1]
Night Vision 5 [5]
Striking ST 2 (Bite Only, -60%) [4]
Teeth (Sharp) [1]
		
Disadvantages:
Odious Racial Habit (Smell Genitalia) [-10]
Social Stigma (Savage)	[-10]

Power-Ups:
Speak with Animals (Specialized, Canines, -60%) [10]
Penetrating Voice	[1]
Temperature Tolerance 1-3 [1/level]
Terror (A chilling howl, anyone who hears you) [30]
What do you think? I am especially unsure about the disadvantage and wheter they might not be too similar to warrant -20 from both. Maybe Bad Temper (12 or less) for [-10] should replace Social Stigma?

Any input is welcome!

You might replace the ORH with Sense of Duty (Adventuring Companions) and Chummy. Or just Gregarious. It is a little less... squicky to role play that way. And still fits wolves.

I mean, sniffing genitals as a quirk chosen by the player might fit some games, but an ORH worth -2 means doing it all the damn time.

You're right, it might be too much tongue-in-cheek for a lot of DF games out there. A quirk would be cool though. I'll see if I can integrate that.

Your idea with Chummy and SoD is very nice and fits a dog, but what about the "lone wolf"?

Well, leaving aside most wolves are not lone wolves, how do you envision your lone wolf race acting? Im not sure the "take a deep whiff in an inappropriate spot" is particularly unique to lone wolves.

An actual wolf outside of the pack likely displays things similar to bad temper, bully, or chronic depression.

Right again, it makes more sense for the race to be gregarious, it is a racial template after all.

I don't know that wolves have that great Night Vision. I'd replace it with Fit - wolves are endurance hunters who tire out their prey before attacking.

According to the info I got off the web, Wolves usually hunt at dusk/dawn or during the night; which is difficult without decent night sight.

Fit would make a nice addition though, thanks.

Which is adequately covered by Discriminatory Smell. They are smell hunters, not sight hunters.


But we're talking real wolves here, not a fantasy race.
