Sliding - are there any constraints, official or recommended?
It seems like one could slide for every maneuver, or at least find a good angle/range, jack up the speed for more defense dice, and then slide back and forth repeatedly to get lower-risk ace tokens and not go anywhere.
With obstacles and higher point cars/crew that are more forgiving, it seems like unrestricted sliding could allow for a lot of silly maneuvering. So, just use house rules? Or does SJG suggest any guidelines like no back to back slides in different directions? |

You can't slide back to where you came, you can slide all left, all right or left and right but you will end up in a different location and also a D0 manoeuvrer still requires you to roll dice equal to your speed.
But just sliding over and over and over again can be a great strategy for avoiding running into a wall... For a bit. Just ask Phil.

Being predictable in your position and facing is a good way to quickly have no equipment left on the part of your car facing your opponent(s), and shortly thereafter to have no car at all.

But it is so much fun to have a collision, slide out of contact and back in on one turn. It realy makes a mess. ;)

Yeah... the slide maneuver is the single biggest problem with mines. It makes it way too easy to get around them, even if they're dropped right in front of you.

What if you make mines a hazard-sized card instead of the little circular tokens, then make them only damage on a Blue dice coming up stars, or something?

I'm curious if you've come up with good house rules about slides. They were definitely the most problematic component of the games I've played (being able to slide back and forth in particular)

In the game and in real life racing, the side-to-side zig-zag is a proven way to keep your speed/momentum up while decreasing your forward movement.
Legitimate and necessary.

The implementation in the game could still be a problem. Maybe slides shouldn't generate ace tokens, for instance.
