Bain will make 2 observation rounds, the first one (along Vic, prior to rest) searching for the potential hiding places win which the key could be found (SL 13: 16).

Once the party catches their breath, the second observation roll is destined to spot the mechanism that opens the “secret door” (SL 13: 9).

Assuming we find something, Bain will carefully check for traps (13+1: 13).

How's the bandit doing?

just general discomfort, slowly bleeding away, or turning into goo? details would be nice.

Do we know if it needs to be a functional axe, or if an image, replica, or stone imitation of one will work? or are we looking for a specific axe?

Lots of pain. No bleeding, but broken bones. Nasty injury.

Any kind of double-headed axe should do. An image (a picture) of the axe won't work, it has to be a physical object that at least matches the shape of the axe. A functional weapon is your best bet.

Is there a loose stone around here somewhere, about the size of an axehead? If so, Telrith will shape it using the shape earth(stone) spell (3FP) into the shape of an axehead around one his spare axes. If one isn't available, He'll send Bushy outside to grab one. skill is 15, rolled a 10.

Well, if there wasn't a loose stone, you or the elementals could just smash-cut a stone surface nearby and take a piece. So, sure, you can get a stone easy. You cast the spell and shape the stone into a rough axehead. Tying it to your axe gets you a double-headed axe.

Is it possible to close that door again?

I'd favor closing the trap door if possible, and clearing out the rest of the bandit lair before continuing on. Use Bushy with a sun-stick as a lookout.

Sure!
From the bottom of the trapdoor, in the tunnel.
From above, in the guard post, no.

Did not we open the door from above?

Yes. Opening it from above requires presenting the axe, but that can not close it from above.

It's a safety feature.
