Yes I own those books and I'm sure I got the idea from reading them. I didn't know or remember the nested techniques part though. I will read up on that again.

Edit:
So I read up and only the spells are techniques. The college skills are just defaults off of the master skill with a limit that no college skill can exceed the master skill. Master skill being Ritual Magic or Thaumatology.
