Re: Jousting plate
In your opinion, might it be realistic to have the "Jousting" armor modifier prevent (or perhaps simply make far less likely) critical hits that bypass armor? That is, such armor lacks weak points that would result in an unfortunate knight in lesser armor being wounded. Such a lack would, naturally, make maneuvering much more difficult, justifying the myriad problems of jousting plate.

Still, that might be the cleanest and most logical way to handle it. The alternative option is for Jousting Plate to be a distinct type of armour, with Cost $800 and Weight 8 lbs. for DR 3 light jousting plate.

Should I include the Cost and Weight of a grandguard for coverage of the left armpit in addition to the left side of the chest and the left shoulder?

Re: Jousting plate
It's no doubt possible to build a plate to bolt on top of another that covers more area, but given that target selection in Renaissance jousting is very limited, it makes sense to strengthen those areas and carry less weight of plate elsewhere.

Re: Tourneys and jousting
Any idea how it might scale to allow a wider variety of mounts, such as dragons and griffins and dire wolves and such?
Also, most mounts in my games (at least, of people paying cavalry sorts) are built as Allies, not shopped for. How do you determine a proper retail price for your ally to ransom them back if you lose? Also, many centaurs have a strong chivalrous tradition (inspired by SHining Force series) . . . any idea how a centaur might joust? |

And if they fly, you'd have to invent radically different jousting rules and either accept that being knocked off will often mean death or have some magical means of reducing injury from falls. Quote:

They could focus on accuracy and skill, practising tent-pegging, a variation of polo or riding at rings. They could even tilt against each other without hammering the lances into one another, with the object instead being to skewer an apple on each other head or take a feather off their helmet.
