I really just wanted a place to stick all the magic rules in one place, but it got out of hand and turned into a full recap thread... lol

It has become a little project. I'll keep going like I have and then come back and refine it. I may put spoilers around multiple spoilers to abridge faster, and I'll likely redo the first post as a link-index.

upon Bart's protests, the medic says. "Well, its thought energy. It takes a strong mind to use it, or a particularly ingenious machine. Theres lots of little particals called Lakatons that a skilled Mukhongan can use to heal, fly a space ship, Set up a teleportor, build terror bombs, or set up a bullet shield."

This is what I get for not rereading that entire thread with a fine-toothed comb!

Easy solution: Lakas/Yaka begins with a Voiced Palatal Lateral Approximant. As this is not common in English (i.e. compare with the 'll' in 'million'), different accents pronounce it with a Voiced Alveolar Lateral Approximant (i.e. 'L') or a Voiced Palatal Approximant (i.e. 'Y'). The pluralization is interchangeable.

It's not a matter of the change in terminology so much as the change it tech, I don't think the version of Mars Peter is in has starships and I think the teleportation is different than the portal Yaka. The previous threads have had different tech levels, and Peter's version appears to be the most primitive.

Well, I can think of a few different reasons for the discrepancy in tech level. Different point on the same timeline, different educational background, different contexts (Peter may have been given examples that don't require equipment he doesn't have). But "Mukhongan" and "Lakas" are two proverbial rocks in the shoe that make things hard to square up with a single timeline approach.

This isn't a "Wells" or a "Burroughs" But it's some kind of "Victorian Mars-3" or more!

The worlds are Infinite after all...
