Default How do I model genetic memory for skills and knowledge?

Hi,

My son would like to have a race which remembers all skills and knowledge from their ancestors.

Hence the current crop of mercenaries are incredibly skilled as they have the combined skills and knowledge of hundreds of years.

Generic memory does not quite get us there. Are there other ways to model the skill bonuses?

Racial Memory is the goto advantage here, though Wild Talent and Modular Abilities also can be used.
Racial Memory gives a chance to know things and allows buying skills not taught in his lifetime but he would still need to pay points for the skills.

I like to use modular abilities, modified to only be available for skills (which is pretty much the most point efficient way to use modular abilities). This has limitations on how many things they can "remember" at a time, but its pretty flexible and pretty powerful. I've used it a number of times for characters who are insanely old.

This works best when combined with high IQ and DX so that these skills will be at a decent level.

Is this close to what you want?

You don't really need to do anything special to accomplish this. Just put the skills you want them have through their genetic memory into their racial template.

What expectations does you son have?

Immediate and instantaneous use of all skills acquired via "genetic memory"? Then just buy them.

Use of one skill at a time? Modular Abilities.

I might also allow attaching Mental or Social Disadvantages to a Modular Bundle, to represent gaining the personality of the prior merc as well.

If there are PCs who aren’t members of that race, you might want to require Reawakened advantage for members of the race.
