Weapon Sizes (and bigger weapons)
Are there any fourth edition rules for bigger than normal weapons? Such as weapons for size +2 creatures... Broadswords would pretty much end up looking like daggers when wielded by giants...
Also, if there is no canon on this, what house rules do you use? Thanks in advance |

Re: Weapon Sizes (and bigger weapons)
Let's see:
Gurps: Dungeon Fantasy has rules for weapons for smaller creatures. Note, however, that these are *not* realistic rules, but rather Old School Dungeon Crawl rules. Supers has rules for larger weapons for higher strength. These, however, are, generally for improvised weapons (telephone poles for SuperDude, etc.). The Inestimable Reverend Pee Kitty has some houserules, widely considered quite good, on the subject here: http://www.mygurps.com/r_minst.html.

1.) pointy bits and sharpness, which won't scale up with size; 2.) increased kinetic energy hitting the target (compared to basic sw or thr damage) because of the way the weapon is balanced. Long weapons will be more effective than short ones at this. Unfortunately, the damage system breaks down anyway for high ST, because the difference between sw and thr fades away and has to be houseruled back in. So I might say that a broadsword for a SZ +6 giant (100 feet tall) is 30 feet long, has Min ST 90, and does (SW * 1.2) damage, where SW is thr damage for 50% more strength. In other words, a beefy ST 120 giant would do thr cut damage for ST 216 using this sword. I'm AFB so I don't know what that figure would be, probably 22d-1 or so. That's a lot, but only about four times as much as a ST 30 ogre swinging a broadsword. -Max |

Re: Weapon Sizes (and bigger weapons)
T-Bone has some nice house rules over at his Games Diner. See especially his GLAIVE for 3e for ideas to port to 4e. For scaling in general, look at GULLIVER on the same site.

Re: Weapon Sizes (and bigger weapons)
Isn't there a section in Basic Set: Campaign about larger than SM 0 weapons. IDHMBWM, I believe it deals with reach, weight, min ST but not with damage (noting that damage does not change). If anyone got their book handy they might be able to find it. Or I've gone looney.
