Fighting Fantasy to Gurps
Came across some old notes from an old game. We decided it might be fun to convert some Fighting Fantasy characters to Gurps and use them, since we all got into this stuff from reading those books as a kid. Didn't get very far but one thing we couldn't really agree on was the Luck attribute. Yeah you could just give them a level or two or the luck advantage but it didn't really feel like it worked the same to us. Looking at it now I'm thinking maybe probability manipulation/visualisation with takes recharge? You'd have to factor it the existence of potions of luck. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Luck (Active -40%, Gadget (Breakable -20%, Can Be Stolen -40%) -60%, Limited Use (1 use per day) -20%) [3] I halved the value of 1 use per day, as 15-point luck is already limited to once per hour; this doesn't actually make a difference to the price, due to the -80% limitation cap. I didn't find a "one use ever" limitation, which would be necessary to turn this into a full-on item (potion) instead of a gadget power. Given this is a potion that alters probability, it is probably a Complex invention, which gives it a retail price of between $10,001 and $1,000,000 dollars. Demand would always be high, but supply of the necessary ingredients would not match, so the price would probably max out: $1,000,000. Of course, the Fighting Fantasy lore price supersedes that. |

For those of us unfamiliar with Fighting Fantasy, what does the Luck stat do? If it lets you spot danger, Danger Sense would work there. If it creates lucky happenstance, Serendipity works. If it mostly serves to increase quantity or quality of loot, a Limited version of Luck is appropriate.

Not really. It's an attribute, meaning every character has it and what it's used for is just generic saving throws to reduce the severity of of unexpected threats. However it goes down every time you succeed in a luck roll making it more and more impossible if you stumble into a lot of unexpected mishaps before the end of the book.

Re: Fighting Fantasy to Gurps
Have you looked at Destiny Points as a GURPS equivalent to Fighting Fantasy Luck? That seems to be the closest equivalent to a limited resource that lets you buy successes or buy off failures. The one drawback is that Destiny Points recover very slowly - 1 point a session. If that's too slow, maybe double the cost but allow full recovery each session.
