Over in my GURPS: Star Trek campaign the players just 'hired' a civilian psychologist to work onboard as a counselor or therapist.

I can already tell by the way the players are talking that they are likely going to treat her as the equivalent of a Department Head.

As for visits from ambassadors and dignitaries they said they will make it optional if she wants to attend any 'formal dinners'. Her primary job is the mental health of the crew as they head out into Deep Space on a two year assignment.

Currently I have not fnished or redone her character sheet - she either had time in space as a Merchant Marine, or she attened Starfleet Academy and had at least one to two tours as an Ensign or Lt Jr Grade before leaving Starfleet.
