Not usually. Even though the environment is a better analog (and every bit as dry), the additional expense is seldom worth it. (The University of North Dakota sent a prototype Mars space suit to Antarctica for testing -- but it turned out to be colder in Grand Forks that day than it was at the test site.)

Yeah, let's go with that. The problem with importing Ankh Morpok is that they'd all die. The city is insanely populous so cut it off from it's continent wide established trade network, and they'd be eating each other in a couple of weeks.

Except the trolls. Maybe. Depends on the geology of Poland.

Is anybody else remembering Ken Hite's 20 Years of the Comet Suppressed Transmission from the old Pyramid Suppressed Transmissions column?

Note on Northern Michigan: Detroit is about as far south as you can get in MI and not be Toledo, OH. Northern Michigan means the Upper Peninsula, and if you're being charitable, the northern 1/3 to 1/2 of the Lower Peninsula. Which area is about as cyberpunk as baseball and apple pie, without the positive connotations of the latter.

Not bad.

I'd be nice to stick a little bit of centrum in there, centrum only needs a city or small province.

Someone suggested eastern Canada for that already. There may be less competition for space in Siberia though.
