Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
Legend holds that Celenar was a prince of Atlantis from its earliest days. Born of a tryst between King Euenor and Leviathan herself, he was a giant and had an extremely evil nature.
One day he laid eyes on Falma, daughter of Geler the demigod of prosperity and increase, and leaping from the sea, grasped her and swallowed her in a single gulp. Hearing what befell his daughter, Geler laid a curse upon Celenar that he would grow and grow and never reach a size but that he would grow beyond that. And indeed, so it was, for year after year Celenar grew and grew, beyond the size of his mother and more. Celenar's size being so great, there was naught sufficient to feed him and his cries of hunger and rumbling stomach caused King Euenar great consternation and he sought counsel from his wizards and sages. They devised the means to feed Celenar, creating a great undersea basin lined with corals whose toxins would kill any creature passing above them and they would sink and lie on the basin floor where Celenar could feed of them. The basin is known to this day as Celenar's Coral Plate. Still, this contrivance did not avail to save Celenar from a horrible fate, for he eventually grew so large that even the waters could not support his girth and he died in agony as his bones crumbled from the weight of his flesh. Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Crack in the Sky is the physical form of electric energy, once gifted to a mortal by the god of thunder and lightning. What once looked like a single sheet of glass is now broken into many shards and spread across the world. Tiny points of light swirl around in the shards in a complex dance.
To release the energy within the glass-like substance, you have to break a shard in two. This shoots a lightning bolt at the nearest sapient creature (other than the user of the shard). The energy released is proportional to the length of the fracture. The shards are sharp, and a user should wear protective gloves to avoid cutting their hands. Next item: The Soul of Fire

Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Soul of Fire is a flawless, indestructible sphere of unknown origin, and appears to be made of clear crystal. It is always a set distance from sea level depending on its current temperature - it would be at sea level at absolute zero, and every Kelvin above absolute zero raises it 1 meter into the air. While it can be shifted laterally without issue (it has the same inertia as a mundane crystal ball), nothing has been found that can force it to change elevation aside from changing its temperature (which can be changed the same as for any mundane crystal ball, although its indestructible nature makes this easier). The name comes from an early association with phlogiston.

Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Five Feathered Fiery Fish is an articulated metal model of a flying fish some seven feet in length, with a saddle worked into its back. The long, feathery flight fins are of copper foil. In use, the Fish generates a field of shifting lights around itself and its rider that protects the rider from environmental hazards. The fish can fly or swim at great speeds.

One of the less-impressive names of an incredibly ancient and powerful artifact. Despite lacking an edge, the weapon can cut through nearly anything, and there have been no records of it being damaged.
Next: The Spear of Spears.

A finely crafted spear. Once per day, the embedded enchantment can be invoked to allow the wielder a single use of the Luck advantage, or give +2 ST or +2 Charisma (Scent based) for one hour, or deal 1 point of toxic follow-up damage per minute for 2d minutes on a successful strike, or allow a single Rapid Strike at no penalty.
Lucky, Stronger, Perfume, Toxic, and Hit Me Baby One More Time. If anyone can think of any other Britney songs that can be easily turned into GURPS mechanics, feel free to add them. Next: The Bag of Withholding

In the Wizard's Republic of Tanyk, all merchants are required to count payments into government-issued Bags of Withholding, which open a temporary one-way gate to the Treasury vaults when money is placed inside. The gate closes once all tariffs and taxes have been paid, and the remainder of the money remains within until the user removes it in the usual fashion.

Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Treacherous Throne is the seat of the monarch of Xardia, a magnificent construction of glass and steel. No matter how benevolent the heir was, when they succeed, they become ruthless and treacherous. A few exceptions exist throughout history, but these rulers died within weeks of their ascension. This has led to the belief that the Throne betrays monarchs who don't adhere to the artifact's wishes.
Xardia controls the only known pass through the continent-dividing Highspire mountain range, forcing other nations to deal with them. Most would prefer to lay waste to Xardia and destroy the Treacherous Throne once and for all, but their impenetrable mountain strongholds have this far deterred attack. Next: The Unruly Ruby

Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Unruly Ruby is a very large gemstone of a deep red color and obviously fabulously valuable to anyone at the slightest glance. It's magic may or may not enhance the greed most feel for it but its' main effect remains dormant until it comes intot eh ahnds of a "ruler".
This includes anyone with any sort of Rank advantage or Status equivalent to some level of Rank. That person then recieves a -3 Curse no doubt throwing all his affairs into chaos. Even if the Curse ends normally it renews itself the enxt day. This goes on until the stone leaves the hands of a ruler one way or another. Next: The Gong of Bong.
