Default [GAME] Assemble a Space Station!

"Systems status report, if you will, Mr C__."
"Yes, Captain. We have some damage to life support which will need repairs pretty damn quick."
"I see. That could prove tricky. Computer, query: nearest repair facilities?"
"The closest equipped facility is Starport 2-Ophelia-Zero."
Captain J__ swore. "Completely out of the question. Next option?"
"The next closest equipped facility is Vista Camus Dock."
"No good, that's in the wrong direction. What's else is there?"
"It is 2 days at standard speed, but the next available repair facility is…"

This is a collaborative setting construction forum game. The objective is to combine our shared talents to build a space station for your team of space adventurers to rest, recuperate, repair, restock and research at. Simultaneously, we'll build the larger setting the space station exists in to inform us of what adventures are possible from it and which factions to align with while on it.

The method is to answer a posted question about the setting, then post a question of your own. Build bit-by-bit on what the other posters have written, and try not to contradict anything that's been established. Questions can be anything from the very general to extremely specific, complex or simple, and can follow on from what's gone before or start off a new direction.

Rapid Fire Rule- 1d6 Sentence Limit: For this iteration of the game, we'll be trying a new rule with the aim of getting short, quick answers with each post. For each question you pose, roll 1d6 and state the result. This will be the sentence limit for the answer to that question.

Tags: We'll start off with two streams of questions, tagged [STN], for questions about the space station itself, and [SET] for questions about the broader setting. Feel free to generate other question tags if you think a separate or more narrow topic requires them.

-----

To make it easier to read through, clearly mark questions and answers in bold, and quote the question you're answering, in the below format.

Example of post format:

The harbour master is known only as Formelius. It is a hyperintelligent slime mould from Gragnus-6.

Question 43 [SET]
What is the standard currency in this sector? (1d6: 5 sentences)

I'll kick off with the first real questions in the next post.

Answer 1 [STN]:

The station is New Hong Kong. This is the English/Galactic Basic translation of the name. (And I'm sorry, it's hard to give reasons for this in 6 sentences without further establishing the setting.)

Question 3 [STN]:

Where is the station located? (1d6: 3 sentences)

Answer 3 [STN]
The space station is in relatively close to a planet.
This planet has seen some form of collapse of civilization in its history, either recently or in the distant past. (And to bring things up to 3 sentences) The civilization collapse event can be of any size, from the collapse of a single outpost up to anything.

Question 4 [STN]
Was the space station built by the current inhabitants? (1d6, roll of 4)

Answer 4

No, the space station predates the evolution of the natives by several million years. Despite its age, the station is in perfect condition due to its overseeing AI. At one billion metric tons, its tertiary weapon batteries are capable of cutting battleships into sushi and it can create a dreadnought in just 1 day with its SM+20 nanofactory. Despite its unwillingness to discuss its past, it is always open for business.

Question 5

What type of exchange does it accept for its services? (Roll 1d, that is the number of materials it accepts for its services)

Answer 2[SET]

Ships can achieve FTL speeds by taking a shortcut through the alien geometry of hyperspace. These shortcuts only allow light speed travel within a system. Between systems, these shortcuts allow typical speeds of around 1 parsec per day. FTL speeds up to 2 parsecs per day are possible, but prohibitively expensive.

Question 6[SET]

What are the main limitations of hyperspace travel? (1d6: roll 3 sentences)

Answer 5 (STN)

Roll of 2. It requires both information (stories, genetic profiles, ship's logs, etc) and the materials used to do the work. The amount of materials required for payment vary depending on the quality of the information, and is some multiple of what the station needs to use (very good information will have the station do the repairs "at cost," requiring only that the materials used be replaced; useless information will require 10x or more the amount of materials used).

Question 7 (STN/SET)

What TL is the station, and what, if any, variations from that "standard" TL are in play? (1d roll: 4)

Let's try to keep the answers at least tangential to the question.

Anyway, so SM+20 would mean it's 5000 yards long as a cylinder, or a 2500 yard diameter if it's spherical. Feel free to post any other stats that might be relevant.

Answer 7 [SET/STN]- Tech Levels
It's a hodgepodge of different techs from TL 9 and TL 10 bolted onto the TL11 foundation. The AI is the centuries old TL9 archaeo-compu-linguistics research mainframe that managed to interface with the base's TL11 precursor weapons and factory modules, as well as a few other systems. That is, most things are either the base TL10 of the wider setting, legacy TL9 infrastructure, or unlocked precursor bits and bobs. Not all the TL11 stuff can be properly interfaced with for various physical and computational reasons.

----

Question 8 [STN]
What physiological peculiarities did the precursor race have that make it difficult to properly interface with their technology and architecture? (roll d6: 1 sentence! Haha~~!)

Question 9 [SET]
Is similar precursor tech widely distributed or is it unique to New Hong Kong? (d6: 2 sentences)

Answer 8 [STN]
Precursors had jet propulsion like Octupi, thus there are no ladders, staircases, or artificial gravity.

Answer 9 [SET]
Yes, there are plenty of examples of Precursor technology. Unfortunately it is most controlled an isolationist country that uses New Hong Kong as an entrepot.

Question 10 [STN]
Was New Hong Kong opened like old Hong Kong (i.e. By war) or some other way?
5 sentences.

Question 11 [SET]
What can your tell me about the isolationist country? 2 sentences.

Reconstructing alien physiology in a servitor species so they can use advanced technology you struggle to is fraught with difficulties both technical and ethical.

The outside world claims that most of the old horror stories about the above process are founding myths of the isolationist country, and only about 30% true.

Question 12
What is the mass, gravity, and black body temperature of the planet? 5 sentences (wow, that's a lot).
