Default Point dispute

I played Adventure Time Munchkin tonight and used a specific combo which gave me a lot of points, but not everyone agreed on how many. I had Tree Trunks as an ally which states, "Doubles the effect of any fruit or baked goods Items you use." Then I used the item Crystal Gem Apple which states, "...Double your combat strength this combat."

Let's hypothetically consider I had 10 combat strength. The Crystal Gem Apple makes me have 20. Then using Tree Trunks ability, do I double my score again and go to 40? Or do I add an additional 10 and go to 30?

"Double" means "double." Doubling twice is quadrupling.

I know there are games that have taken the approach that doubling means adding the same bonus a second time, and therefore that doubling twice really means tripling, but that's stupid AND hard to explain, so screw that.

If I'm reading this right though... Tree Trunks doesn't double your total score - only certian One Shot combat bonuses. While those would get doubled twice (a +3 One Shot baked good getting doubled and doubled again to a +12), your *total* score would not get doubled via Tree Trunks.

That's a fair point. Without looking at the cards themselves, I don't want to reverse myself just yet, and I'm in the middle of other things and don't have time to haul out my Adventure Time box, so for now, I'm leaving my answer alone.

Normally, you'd be correct, but here's the issue that I think you're missing, Uncle Bob: In this case, Tree Trunks is doubling a fruit Item which says to double your combat strength. So the question being asked is this: By doubling your combat strength, does the Crystal Gem Apple give a bonus equal to your combat strength, so by doubling it does it now give a bonus twice your combat strength? Or, should you double what it's doing and therefore quadruple your combat strength? Andrew's answer is that you double the multiplier, not double the effective bonus of the Item in question for such an Item as the Crystal Gem Apple.

It's a tricky case, so we'll see what a review of the cards reveals.

I have reviewed the cards, and the actual wording is 'double your combat strength this combat'. I believe Andrew made the correct call already. This combo would effectively quadruple combat strength.

Ditto. Brushing away any kind of flavor text, all we're left with is a very straightforward instruction.

Oh, wow. I didn't even *think* about TT doubling the Crystal Gem Apple. Wow. Ignore what I said then and double-double-up!

I had 24 combat strength before using the Crystal Gem Apple, and shot up to 96! Best combo I've ever seen in any Munchkin game. Has anyone topped 96?
