Default Key (Scooby-Doo)

When it is attached to a Big Item, does it still require a hand slot?

If yes: what's the purpose in attaching it?
If no: so, may it be considered as a de facto item enhancer, right?

What does the "Key" say it does?

It's a 1-Hand giving a +1 bonus.
It says that you may permanently attach the Key to any Big Item.
No benefit doing so, and it stays with the Item if it is taken, and is discarded if the Item is.

So I suppose that doing so it will become an item enhancer, losing the hand requirement... if not, it's meaningless.
