Re: 3e Extended Critical in 4e - what would break?
Note, that this is a leveled specialized Perk with only 3 levels, so for 'full value' (3 points) and having all it's Prereqs (which is a good list), it gets the PC to critiing on 9 or less in one skill.
That's a pretty good way to do it, There is also Every One’s a Critical, Dungeon Fantasy Denizens Swashbuckler pg 26. It's different, it works with all melee weapon skills, only increases crit range to 7, but also allows a reroll on the Critical Hit Chart. It's a Daredevil refluff, so it does cost 15 points, but looks comparably priced due to it's expanded weapon listing. |

Re: 3e Extended Critical in 4e - what would break?
Honestly, if you just remove 'critical success prevents making a defense roll' unless the original roll was 3-4 and you could extend the critical range to whatever; it's critical success bypassing defense that makes extended crit range problematic at higher skill levels.

Quote:
In World of D'y'r't we had a magic weapon that raised the crit chance to 7 but we never rolled anything on the chart that was worth the effort of rolling.
