Now that you mention it, it rings a bell. It's quite possible I might have waited for the second printing on purpose.

Actually, the more I think about it the more I believe what happened is either a) I've learned about the binding issue and waited for the second printing or b) perhaps more probable, I bought the first printing (knowing of the issue or not) but gave it away to a friend and acquired the second printing became available

I hear that. I had my Characters book replaced and shipped for free (thanks SJG) and my second one has a bunch of pages loose from that time as well. Campaigns did as well but for some reason I didn't want to bother with the process again and just had both spiral bound.

I put Characters in a binder in plastic page protectors. It has proven handy when doing a session zero, as I can pull out whole sections and let one player look through the disadvantages while another is looking at skills.
