Yeah I certainly encountered this before, if you come up with a method to solve the plot instanrtly they will come up with some excuse why you can not do that.

If anyone needs that explained, Chopper is the R5 Droid on the Star Wars:Rebels TV series. Chopper goes well beyond difficult or even the "surly" the R5 is described as in one RPG supplement. Something between "thuggish" and "sadistic" might cover it.
Chopper doesn't exactly strike me as an R5, though; he's not in a traditional R-series chassis. I think he's from the model line that predated the R-series astromechs. You're right, though, he's a sadistic little thug. ;)

Favorite R5 in any game I've been in, though, was R5-B8, who started as a nanny droid and hence a garish neon pink paint scheme with bright green and orange highlights. Bait thought she was an R2 unit, too, given how she acted, cheerfully whistling in the middle of firefights. The party never did figure out she was the Imperial spy in their midst, but even Bait didn't know she was!

Arby is R5-B6.

I took MonkeyFist to FNM. After coming out of the nap room (the FLGS has a nice, dark room with a couch—I take naps in there) MonkeyFist and a couple of other players are talking about the latest set’s story.

Player 1: (Talks about one of the Elder Gods being killed.)
MonkeyFist: “That’s Bull.”
Player 2: “Yeah, they just team up and beat it.”
Player 1: (Goes into detail about trapping and destroying the God.)
Me: “Wait, so they just—‘By our powers’ combined!’ and Captain Planet’d it?”
Player 2: “No, there were only four of them.”
Me: “Well, that’s because Heart is the crappy power and they didn’t need it.”

Judging by the art used in both the WEG and D20 RPG games Chopper's in a rather beat up R5 chassis. I'm pretty sure the rocket engine is non-standard though. :)

Pretty sure the R5 series - of which R5-D4, the red astromech with a bad motivator from the original movie, was the first we see - doesn't have arms coming out of the head. Looking at Chopper alongside Artoo in that one episode in season 1, the two chassis (not sure of the plural) are different, whereas R2-D2 and R5-D4 had near-identical chassis except for the head.

But that reminds me of one line from a SWSE game....

(all OOC)
Me (playing a techie): Okay, I'll need a mouse droid chassis and five kilos of detonite.
GM: Five kilos? Isn't that a bit excessive?
Mando Player: There's no problem that can't be solved with too much detonite.
Me: Unless you want me to roll to make a baradium warhead, instead."
Mando: Baradium's underrated. And illegal, even in Hutt space.
Me: So is this kamikaze mouse droid. :)

PC2: "No, we are considering going into the lair of a tribe of cannibal dwarves to steal the eye of an ancient snake monster. Totally different."
