Can you use a hierling when you have rapture pox?

Rules clearly state that you can use a hierling INSTEAD of running away so at that point rapture pox would not come into effect

No. You cannot escape from combat without running away unless a card says you can explicitly. If you can't beat a monster, you must Run Away. You may discard a Hireling to automatically escape from combat (this counts as Running Away).

Rapture Pox says that you automatically fail even if something would let you automatically escape.

Rapture Pox overrides using a Hireling to escape.
