As the party walks down the slope, their advance scout peers around the left sees it is dark - deliberately so, torches have been extinguished.

(OOC: The darkness penalty is -5. Whoever is in front, roll Perception or Observation, whichever is highest, applying all relevant modifiers, before we go any further.)

Telrith, I think we should send an elemental with a torch to help us light the path; he must do it in reverse order, this will prevent enemy attacks from the darkness… If we light the sconces as we move, we become more visible but they (potential ambushers) don't. However, before we do this…

Bain makes a stop, and stares at the darkness.

This is fun… Have you heard of it? When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you… It actually means that reflecting on your fear (the abyss), might make it overcome you if you are not prepared...

And now…


Bain puts off part of the fire in the room they are at; he takes some arrows from the cart and takes some booze from the tables in the mess hall. He wraps a piece of cloth on an arrow’s tip, pours some booze on it and sets in on fire.

Now it is just the same. It is time we take all take a look into the darkness, to learn where this leads to.

Pay attention my friends, and see if your eyes pick something out of this.


Bain takes aim, and shoots a fire arrow into the abyss…

As the arrow flies, the pass will be revealed… The party strain their eyes against the darkness… what will the arrow tell on its travel?

Vic notices it before the arrow flies - there are a decently big flank of people (the bandits from before, with reinforcements) hiding in the shadows. Gathika sees the people, too.

The light from the arrow reveals what Vic already saw - people aiming their bow with ready arrows at the party as it comes around the corner.

The sudden light startles them all and the bandits don't shoot back right away.

(OOC: Combat time has started. Rather than getting off a surprise attack or the first volley, the bandits are forced to fight as per normal. Everyone goes in Basic Speed order - note your Basic Speed in the OC thread as you declare your actions.)

As the arrow reveals the bandits ready for an ambush, Bain immediately takes cover and prepares for the fray.

TURN 1

The bad guys at the end of the corridor are not interested in surrendering or religious introspection.

They are interested in killing the pack of intruders.

They open fire - well, six of them do. Three at Vic, three at Bain.
(Attack rolls; 11,13,6 AND 10,9,10. One potential hit to both. Roll Dodge, Bain and Vic. The damage roll is 1d+0 impaling.)

Aware of the attack, Bain retreats with an acrobatic dodge and succeeds as he reaches for cover.

Acrobatics (12): 3d6 = 10 success.
Retreat dodge (14): 3d6 = 8 success.

Bain and Vic step back into cover, around the corner. Gathika, Telrith and the elementals follow their lead.

TURN 2

The bad guys can be heard shouting threats and curses from the darkness. They all seem eager to murder.

(OOC: They're standing their ground, not rushing at you guys. The light that Bain put there is still active.)
