I bought this and skimmed through it. I think Phil Masters is probably one of the best writers for fantasy game products. I do wish he would write more, especially for semi- mythical style fantasy dungeon delving. This book was very good although I feel it could have been a little longer and included dinosaur-man types ( a la Land of the Lost or the Utiss of Lejendary Adventure) some turtle-men (maybe with snapping turtle head attacks?) and maybe had some serpent lord mutants from hybridizing with humans( a la Yuan to of AD&D)

The Serpent-Lords have Alternate Form, an Enhanced Human template. The advantage has Reliable 2 but Alternate Form does not normally require a skill roll. What am I missing?

There's an asterisk next to it that points the reader to page 9, where the Enhancement is explained. It applies "to any roll to employ or sustain the effect, including rolls to resist having it dispelled." So if the Serpent-Lord is in a situation where they need to make a roll to be able to transform or maintain their transformed state, they do so at +2.

That would be it. Thanks.

It features historical background notes for the trope and four major varieties of reptilian humanoid, with templates, and also multiple variants - so it's relevant not only to fantasy games (from Yrth to the dungeon), but also to horror, monster hunters, and conspiracy campaigns. And there are martial arts and magical styles appropriate to these beings, and some tweaks to equipment lists and rules.

So I probably ought to end here with some corny exhortation like "Scale Up!"
Doppă, my first character, was a reptilian in a homebrew game absurdly similar to GURPS using “magic as powers”. I am beyond excited to make him again, (and perhaps have him as an NPC in an upcoming campaign? Who knows). Thanks for the writer, best book I’ve seen launching since I came to GURPS 4e.
