Yes. And in this one, we can see Mike Tyson doing it several times. It is harder to notice because it is Just one little step backward and one little step forward, very quickly and there is also a different angle of attack every time, but it is still there. "Inside and out", as it is said in the video.

I suppose if you did do two second turns you could expand all-out-attack for options like Ready and Attack and so on.

retreats aside, you could also do that via Committed Attack

(A boxing ring is a 7-yd x 7-yd square, more or less - I had to look it up)

There's no question that people take steps during combat, but there's no reason to call them Retreat; it's just part of your ordinary defense.

It's hard to call movements in most historical fencing anything else.

Note that with punches a retreat takes you out of close combat (either straight back or to the side with a Sideslip) and your opponent can then use their step to enter your hex. This teasily simulates the way that Tyson chases his opponents completely across the (7 yard) ring.

No it isn't. If it causes you to actually move by a hex, it's a retreat. Otherwise, it's just an ordinary dodge, parry, or block.

People move their feet at almost every attack, parry, and dodge. There's no reason to give it a special name -- if anything, there should be a special name for not taking a step.

When the fighters move from one end to the other of the ring, how are they not moving by hexes?
