The party retraces their steps to the previous junction, and goes the other way.

The corridor takes less time and distance before it opens up to another area. This appears to be an entrance lobby, where an actual door (bolted from within) is closed to the north. This room is heavily stained with blood and viscera - lots of people got gutted here and the cleanup was incomplete. Flies are swarming around.

The other tunnels out of this area go northwest and south.

The south tunnel soon turns into a steep, narrow, upward-sloping staircase where people can only walk single file. From the bottom of the stairs, one can see the ceiling and a back wall...and not much else, thanks to the angle.

The northwest tunnel looks like a lot of dead bodies were dragged into it from other parts of the caves here, leaving behind dried blood in the typical wide and rough pattern. There's a turn into a fork (two ways, one way is right into another room) not far up ahead, no doors.

Alright, so it is two options. I suggest we check on the path that is already open, I’ve got the feeling the bolted door deals to treasure Gathika would love… the gifts of death, but that can wait.

Bain does some tracking (12) 11 to check for goblin activity (the ones that escaped moments ago).

None of the tracks here are recent hobgoblin ones.
They look somewhat human?

Do you recognize these marks? Could it be the undead? IIRC there are 3 "main" pathways, I believe we have explored 2 of 3, with each pathway seemingly ending in a chamber. If some goblins escaped prior or during our fight with the hobgoblins, they should have taken either of these corridors. So, we should focus on that, for the rest are probably death-traps. The goblin’s tracks must be recent, it should be easy to find them, especially if they were escaping.

He also asks Vic or Kinclad to carefully put the bones of the fallen skeleton bones on the loot-box. This is evidence of the dangers the people of this realm will face, they can surely study this and find ways to neutralize them.


Bain returns to the combat site and observes (13) 12 the area, then he carefully looks for their specific tracks (12+2) 10 (he is using his ability to illuminate the area to negate penalties) and checks for traps (14) 7 on the newly found points of interest.

What is Mihrimah’s PER or observation score, maybe she could help seeking the tracks?

Bain finds nothing interesting besides the many signs of death and violence, and he finds a trap on the door to the north, albeit one that seems to target people opening the door from the other side.

He figures out that most of the non-hobgoblin tracks go up the stairs.

The shadow elf hireling helps, but she finds little else than chipped bones and small strips of flesh.

What kind of trap is this?

Given that the door is bolted and also has a trap that activates against things on the other side, I believe they trapped something inside.

While the rest of the party remain contemplative, Bain concentrates and with "the eye of the mind", observes (13) 11, to check if any dangerous magic emanates from the locked room (magery).

Bain's hunch pays off; he realises the trap is magical.
The trap is "aimed" at the other side of the door, targeting those who try to open it. The party is safe from this side.

And judging by the sunlight coming from the bottom crack of the door, the outside of the cave is behind the door. He can hear (softly, muffled) the sounds of nature coming from behind the door.

(OC: do you have Thaumatology skill, Bain? If so, assume you rolled a 11. Is that a success?)

Since Bain does not have Thaumatology, he asks his "magic friends" to check the door.

This door is not regular, we need the insight of an expert in the crafts of wonders and the occult.
