Combat with Tall Creatures
Hey everyone, I've got a question pertaining to an upcoming game of DF I'll be running. The players are likely to encounter a giant, standing some 13 or 14 feet tall (SM +2). With such a tall enemy, I was wondering what the proper way of handling large height differences is.
With a 6' tall delver and a reach 1 weapon, there shouldn't be any practical way of striking at the giants face/eyes/skull, while his legs would be fairly easy targets. I'm thinking about modeling this by counting the combat as 6 feet of difference in combat (basic pg 402), but without the defense bonuses/penalties or limitations on the giant. That would give humans standing at the giants feet +2 to hit his legs (so an effective +2 after limb location and SM cancel out), but leave them unable to attack anything but the legs or feet until the giant was forced to crouch. Extra reach would remove 3 feet from the difference, so -2 to hit the head, then no difference. The SM +1 ogre would fight the giant normally, in the same way humans fight the ogre without special rules. Let me know what you think, or if you've run into the situation before and come up with other solutions!

Re: Combat with Tall Creatures
Have you looked at "Combat Writ Large" in Pyramid #3/77: Combat?
