Ordinary People: Characters [0] to [-50]
To go along with the low-level 25 to 50 point character concepts, many of which are fully suitable as PCs in a low level campaign, I figured I should create a thread for the truly ordinary NPCs which would make up the greater population of the world, and most realistic game worlds.
The restrictions on these characters are that they should be close to or less than 0 points, but try not to go over -50 points. The concepts should be reasonable and common, please notate if they have special powers, etc. The only limit on disadvantages is simply to stay reasonable. The challenge to you then is: Can you create characters who could function a valuable role as NPCs in a setting even though they are built on 0 points or less? I'll start with a Pre-school teacher. Kathy Wilson [-35] points total 5'8", 138lbs, 36 years old Attributes ST 7 [-30] HP 8 [2] IQ 10 [0] DX 9 [-20] HT 8 [-20] FP 8 [0] Will 11 [+5] Per 11 [+5] Advantages Honest Face [+1] Attractive [+4] Charisma [+5] Voice [+10] Disadvantages §Pacifism: Self-Defense only [-15] Bad Sight (Mitigator:Glasses) [-10] Phobia: Snakes (SC12) [-5] Quirks Careful [-1] OCD Washes Hands [-1] Likes to sing at her students [-1] Dislikes any type of hard labor[-1] Keeps Kosher [-1] Languages Native Language (English) [0] - Native Foreign Language (Spanish) [2] - Broken Foreign Language (French) [2] - Broken Skills Administration IQ/Avg [1] - 9 - Brawling DX/easy [2] - 11 - (Self-Defense Courses). Teaching IQ/avg [4] - 11 - Writing IQ/avg [2] - 10 - Backstory: Kathy currently works as a Pre-School teacher, while continuing to work on her dream of becoming a Romance writer. She does considerable research for her bodice rippers, unfortunately, the sheets her research is written on aren't the type which get published. She also has significant skill in self-defense, both armed and unarmed. Bad things sometimes happen to non-adventurers, she's not too badly traumatized by her past and she's currently leading a normal life. She has had to defend herself before, and is somewhat afraid she might need to do so gain. However, the next time she gets assaulted she may be armed. Of course, she may still hesitate to use her gun, if she has it with her, until it's too late, but even as a non-adventurer there's still the possibility that she may fight back. §(Pacifism Self-Defense Only is the same as Cannot Harm Innocents w/Reluctant Killer.) No Sense of Duty: Students? No Non Hazardous Duty: Teaching? No generic dependents:students? No Perk: Teachers License? No Educators Code of Honor?
You may want to raise her STR a bit and maybe give her Fit. Pre school teachers are pretty active. |

I'd say she has "other hobbies". Why didn't I ever have teachers like that when I was a student? :( -Polaris |

Has she killed before or been in a position that she would have reason to be a reluctant killer? If not, I’m having trouble understanding this in her disads – reasoning? |

A disadvantage like reluctant killer I would usually give to someone who has been in the position where they have had to kill, and they realize that the thought of it is disturbing afterwards - so a non-adventurer or non-hunter for instance couldn't have "reluctant killer" - they aren't ever in a posiiton to need to make that choice - so it is more of a quirk level disad for them. Different strokes. |
