It seems to be based on the SS/R table. On that table, each +6 gives x10 distance. Here, it gives x100 area. So each step on the table would be a factor of 2.15 in area. I'll run up a full table in a few minutes.

OK, here's what I deduce to be the progression:
Code:
Size	Area
0	0.5
1	1.1
2	2.3
3	5.0
4	10.8
5	23.2
6	50
7	108
8	232
9	500
10	1,077
11	2,321
12	5,000
13	10,772
14	23,208
15	50,000
16	107,722
17	232,079
18	500,000
19	1,077,217
20	2,320,794
21	5,000,000
22	10,772,173
23	23,207,944
24	50,000,000

Six steps is a factor of 100. (Ignore the real-world examples.) So, 6th root of 100 per step, or a factor of about 2.154 per step. 3 steps is a factor of 10.

What would 50,000 square miles be?
10 times the size of SM+12. SM+12 is 5000, a factor of 10 is +3, so 50,000 is SM+12+3 = SM+15.

Looks like a good rule of thumb is a 1-2.5-5 progression.

True, but SM is based on the Longest Dimension while Realm Size Value is an area.

On pg. 45, under Dissolution, there's no explanation for what an ordinary failure does - just success, critical success and critical failure.

The way I read it is based on the second sentence:
"Roll against Management Skill every turn to see whether the revolutionaries can form a stable government" (italics mine).
If they fail of an ordinary failure - they have to try again the next turn.

That's the result of a success, though.
"Success means the realm limps on for another turn. Critical success raises the realm’s Conformity Rating, and no further checks for dissolution are required."
So you've only stabilized the revolution once you've critically succeeded - until then, you're at risk of the realm dissolving on a critical failure. So what's a failure?

Yes, realm sizes aren't actually on the SM scale.
