The claim for Abney-Hastings ignores the right of conquest by Henry Tudor. But it depends on the right of conquest by William of Normandy. Either
  • right of conquest is valid, in which case the William III was the rightful king, the Act of Settlement is valid, and Elizabeth II is the rightful king, or
  • right of conquest is not valid, in which case William I was not rightful, no descent from him conveys legitimacy, and Edgar Atheling was the last rightful king of England.
Besides which, the claim for Abney-Hastings depends on the assumption that Edward IV was conceived in adultery (which is speculative) and the misconception that false paternity makes a child illegitimate in law (which is incorrect: the common law of England is that the children of a married woman are the legitimate children and rightful heirs of her husband).

Nice bloke. Not king of England.

So there are a few dozen Plantagenets with "royal blood". The Tudors tried very hard to wipe them all out.
Besides the Earls of Loudon there are the dukes of Beaufort.

Absolutely - back in the day, casting an unauthorised horoscope of the King was considered treason, so the risks inherent in peddling your blood to someone who very clearly intends to do some kind of magic with it...

If noble blood is worth more, and you want your blood to go up in value, now you can! And if you use the promo code, at 20% off right now!

(Sealand is having a Black Friday sale. I'd post the link and the promo code, but don't know if that would violate a rule here).

Sure but Saint's bones are more transportable.

How about, Saints marrow. How long does marrow keep?

Moving on. What other sorts of people's blood might alchemists crave, besides royal blood? Virgins' blood, traditionally. And that of human sacrifices, also traditionally. What about papal blood, or even episcopal? Viceregal? Mayoral? Shrieval? Comital? Would the blood of the cardinal duke of York and pretender king of England have been worth bottling?

How about the blood of a Delphic oracle or Sibyl, of a Vestal virgin? That of Olympic champions, drawn immediately after their crowning with the laurels? Of the victims of juridicial execution? Nobel prize winners? Full professors at the older and more effete universities?

Can we get anywhere with collect-a-sets? A dram of blood from every earl in the peerage of England? Of every cardinal at a conclave? What could we do, the night before a battle, with a dram of blood from each and every Knight of Saint Lazarus present, drawn after their confession and shriving? Or of every member of the Sacred Band of Thebes?
That would only work if there is some innate quality to people that explains every achievement. As if there was no such thing as weather.

Suppose at Waterloo Lord John of Snazzyhall is in a square. He hasn't done anything with his life. He is however a wonky genius and probably will invent something great at home. But right now he is a bachelor because he is young and just hasn't had time.

Now ahead of him is Private Andy the Wastral who is no good for anything but gin and beer and has left several children around he could not be bothered to visit.

A cannonball takes kills both of them. Private Andy is dumped in a heap. Lord John is forgotten too and leaves nothing on Earth but someone's dentures.

However one of Private Andy's misbegotten children is determined to prove himself, goes to America and becomes a shipping baron. Later his family grows old and becomes one of the crustiest Old Money in America.

Whose blood is worth more, that of the gallant Lord John or the worthless Private Andy who get killed by the same cannonball?

Of course there could be value added? Say someone can add mana value to their blood according to their life? Kind of like buying property and building a barn, say.

Or if achievements imbue the blood with something.

Which possibility was allowed for in the last two sentences. It would make for some complicated calculations.

Come to think of that, that could be a feature. A quest for someone whose blood added up to enough for the demand.
