(IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]

Peter has a look around...

Do they have electricity? running water? bathrooms? Is there any evidence of any kind of technology?

What time of day or night is it? If it is daytime, Peter will walk down the path of houses and see if there are any people about. If it si still dark, or there is no activity, he will get on the trail of the mechanical horse riders after they pass in a loose follow to see where they are going, while trying to keep out of sight.

They have water pumps, and the amount of metal causually used in furniture and the amount of polished wood indicates access to industrial smelting and proper lumber mills or something like that. There is no electricity, but hooks for lamps... a few lamps attatched firmly to the ceiling have been left... it seems they are kerosene. They have bathrooms, with the hand water-pumps.

If it si still dark, or there is no activity, he will get on the trail of the mechanical horse riders after they pass in a loose follow to see where they are going, while trying to keep out of sight.

Peter is confused about the time of day, as there is no sun. It does seem to be moderately light like early morning or an overcast day, and it might be getting lighter.



A few people are coming out of houses far off, mostly heading to their sheds to get stuff.

Peter will walk down the road looking generally disheveled and approaches one of the people.

"Um, hello? Can you help me? Do you speak English? What is this place? I don't know where I am and I can't remember how I got here."

Having some small measure of success playing amnesiac with the police back home, he decides to try it here.

As he approaches the man and his daughter, the man moves the daughter behind him, and sends her back off towards the house. He eyes the dog.


"No!" He shakes his head and touches his mouth. "No!"


He points at Peter's mismatched shoes, and puts a quizzical face on, asking about the shoes.



He makes a gesture for Peter turning around and walking away, and makes a wondering gesture.



Then he gestures for Peter to follow, and leads towards a shed.

"I didn't have shoes when I woke up... These are the best I could scrounge up... But you probably don't understand me, do you?"

Peter tries to get a feel for the man's emotional state with his Empath Talent.

He follows the man cautiously but keeps a few yards distant so as to stay out of the man's reach.

The feels that Peter's presence poses an indirect threat requiring careful handling.

He leads him to the shed, opens the door, and fetches a blanket from it. Then he gestures for Peter to stay were he his, and walks towards the well, sending the girl towards the house, and turning back to look at Peter frequently.

The man returns with a bucket of water and a ladle, and offers Peter a drink.

Peter notices a woman on the porch waving a big red pennant on a staff back and forth.


The girl runs back from the house with a matched pair of shoes.

Peter accepts the water and shoes.

"I guess your mom is calling those riders back... Think I'm in trouble?" He says to the girl, rhetorically since they don't seem to speak English.

Seeing the man's nervous reaction to Goliath, Peter has him sit, roll over and lie down in succession to demonstrate the dog's obedience, hoping this will reassure him that the dog is not a threat.

Is the man giving the girl any kind of spoken instructions in a foreign language, or is this all happening in silence suggesting some kind of telepathy?

Peter remains to see what happens next but keeps an eye out on the treeline for the best route of escape if whoever the banner is summoning arrives with an agressive demeanor.

The man is giving the girl instructions in a language Peter does not understand.



The girl drops the shoes and runs away when Peter talks to her.



Four men arrive on mechanical horses. The Man and others seem just as afraid of them as of Peter: the man is the only one present when the soldiers come. And soldiers they are, with uniforms and those strange weapons, the the occasional barking of commands in their language.



The men seem wary of Peter, but they don't seem to have come to summarily execute him.



I don't know how aggressive you're talking about in their demeanor. Would arrest count as aggressive? If so Peter can go ahead and run, though the trees are about 500 yards away, which is a bit far to run. A nearby (20 yards) field of growing grain might work better.



The horses mechanically whine as they move. They seem to have their own very limited intelligence, and they move quite a bit faster than flesh and blood horses.

Okay, I totally dropped the ball on that one. With the houses on a path off of the road, I was picturing houses amongst the trees, and that the full treeline was a short dash away. Had I realized, Peter would have dashed away as soon as the woman started waving the banner.

Arresting someone is definitely aggressive... but can't necessarily be seen as such until after the approach, depending on their procedure and whether Peter can sense their motivations.

Looking at the options... looks like peter is getting arrested. One or two he might be able to avoid in the field, but not four horsemen. Likewise, he could lose them in the woods if he could get there, but he could never cross the distance before they ran him down.

He will flash them his Disarming Smile and do his best to communicate.

The chances in the woods are probably less than you think... its a narrow line of trees, not a proper wood.



The lead rider starts by speaking in english "Are you an American? Where is the portal you came through?"
