Clothing costs
I'm curious were the programers came up with the recommended clothing costs from. At 20% cost of living, a single set of street clothes should cost me $120, instead of the $50 I'd spend on a pair of jeans and a decent button-up or t-shirt. This includes a pair of socks and unerwear.

Re: Clothing costs
What? No Shoes? No jacket or overcoat?
Anyway, the answer is p. B266, which suggests a cost of 20% of Cost of Living for ordinary clothes and 40% of CoL for formal wear. Cost can vary, of course, but the suggestions are there to simplify the game.

Re: Clothing costs
Thanks for the refence. I had thought footwear was bought seperately. Even in the description, regular clothes don't include overwear (probably assumes late spring to early fall-weight clothes), which still leaves some of it unaccounted for... And I still don't want to spend 12% of my characters' starting funds for an extra set of clothes to whear when washing the first set in a stream! :) Or for that matter, when his first set is sliced, diced, and bloody from battle :(

You're assumed to have a full wardrobe wrapped up in the 80% of starting wealth reserved for living expenses (along with a vehicle, home, furniture, farm animals, etc. depending on status and TL). If you're a wanderer taking 100% starting wealth that's the literal price you pay to take 100% in adventuring gear. Clothes weren't cheap historically until textile mills and factory-scale tailoring came into being which is why they generally stay a fixed-price while starting wealth rises. In a modern day game Status 0 clothing is a trivial expense for all but the poorest people, but a TL3 murder-hobo might wash his clothes nude and (really until the last decade or so in real life) mend them when damaged.

Re: Clothing costs
Then I'm charging them the 20 lbs to carry it because I'm an evil GM... (Though I think it's perfectly reasonable for it to be free of monetary cost.)

Re: Clothing costs
I love you guys!:) I can never actually read a rulebook cover to cover, I actually have to find it myself when I need it, and I think I've been relying too heavily on GCA lately. And the kind, anal-retentiveness of strangers!
