A Couple Simple Robot Racial Templates With Lenses
Greetings!
I had fun designing a basic, generic sentient android racial template in another thread and decided to flesh it out a little more just for fun and as an exercise in doing so. I tired to stay within the Basic Set only, not venturing into Ulta-Tech or Bio-Tech, though the templates here closely mirror the examples in Ultra-Tech. I did add the Accessory (Computer) and Striking Surface perks from Power-Ups 2: Perks. However, neither are necessary. The theme for the SA-1000 is "mass-produced," "generic" and "basic," an android that could be considered very close to human and allowed pretty much any place where AI is allowed and owned by any civilian where ownership of AI is legal. Much the same for the GA-1000 combat robot, but it is likely under much stricter legal control. Tech Level is not specified, but is probably TL 9 or greater. Servitor Android: SA-1000-A1, SA-1000-F1 or SA-1000-M1 50 points SA-1000's are mass-produced sentient androids, free-willed, humanoid robots. They appear to be monochromatic, hairless mannequins with vague sexual characteristics. The 'M' ("Male") model, at 5'10", is slightly larger than the 'A' ("Androgynous") model at 5'8", which is in turn slightly larger than the 'F' ("Female") model at 5'6". The 'M' model has a more masculine voice than the 'F' model while the 'A' model's voice is more monotone. As opposed to the non-sentient Servitor Robot 1000's, the SA-1000's normally perform clerical or household services where sentience is desirable or mandatory such as with personal assistants, certain medical professions, child care, or human resource departments among others. Society considers sentient androids mechanical life forms without most of the rights and benefits of citizenship, little different than any other animal, beast of burden or pet. In societies where sentient artificial intelligences are considered no different than any other, remove Status -2; Social Stigma (Valuable Property) and Wealth (Dead Broke) for a total template cost of 95 points. In societies that do not recognize AI's as a life form, they have no rights; substitute Social Stigma (Valuable Property) [-10] with Social Stigma (Subjugated) [-20] for a template cost of 40 points. Attribute Modifiers: HT+2 [20]. Secondary Characteristics Modifiers: None. Advantages: Accessory (Computer) [1]; AI (not Reprogrammable) [42]; Doesn't Breathe [20]; Doesn't Eat or Drink [10]; Machine [25]. Disadvantages: Electrical [-20]; Maintenance (One Person, Monthly) [-2]; Status -2 [-10]; Social Stigma (Valuable Property) [-10]; Unnatural Features 2 [-2]; Wealth (Dead Broke) [-25]. Features: Sterile. The android appears to be a well-fashioned mannequin. Lenses
Guardian Android: GA-1000 452 points GA-1000's are mass-produced sentient androids, free-willed, humanoid robots. It has no sexual characteristics and does not come in 'A', 'F', or 'M' models like the SA-1000 models. It towers a massive 7'8" tall. It has an armored, metallic body with a blank, featureless face cut from side to side by a visor-like slit for optical sensors; as such, it does not have Unnatural Features, since no one seeing it will consider it anything other than a machine. As opposed to the non-sentient Guardian Robot 1000's, the GA-1000's are deployed where sentience is a necessity. For example, they are often sent to war zones with a mix of enemy and allied native populations or into urban populations where the crime rate is great and the criminals are heavily armed. Society considers sentient androids mechanical life forms without most of the rights and benefits of citizenship, little different than any other animal, beast of burden or pet. In societies where sentient artificial intelligences are considered no different than any other, remove Status -2; Social Stigma (Valuable Property) and Wealth (Dead Broke). In societies that do not recognize AI's as a life form, they have no rights; substitute Social Stigma (Valuable Property) with Social Stigma (Subjugated). Attribute Modifiers: Add ST+10 (Size, -10%) [90]; DX+3 [90]; HT+2 [20]. Secondary Characteristics Modifiers: SM +1; Basic Move +1 (Long Legs) [0]. Advantages: Accessory (Computer) [1]; AI (not Reprogrammable) [42]; Combat Reflexes [15]; Discriminatory Hearing [15]; Doesn't Breathe [20]; Doesn't Eat or Drink [10]; DR 20 (Can't Wear Armor, -40%; Torso Only, -10%) [50]; DR 30 (Can't Wear Armor, -40%) [90]; High Pain Threshold [10]; Hyperspectral Vision [25]; Machine [25]; Peripheral Vision [15]; Pressure Support 1 [5]; Protected Senses (Hearing, Vision) [10]; Radiation Tolerance 5 [10]; Sealed [15]; Striking Surface [1]; Temperature Tolerance 20 [20]; Vacuum Support [5]. Disadvantages: Disturbing Voice [-10]; Electrical [-20]; Gigantism [0]; Maintenance (One Person, Monthly) [-2]; Numb [-20]; Social Stigma (Valuable Property) [-10]; Status -2 [-10]; Unnatural Features 2 [-2]; Wealth (Dead Broke) [-25]. Features: Sterile.
